  • Trembucker vs humbucker

If I put a regular duncan humbucker in an SL2h witha floyd as opposed to the trembuckers will it make that much of a negative impact? I looked at the specs on the duncan page and from what I can tell the difference between spacing between poles on each is like .014 of and inch

From my experience, if it's a Distortion, it won't matter tonally if it's F-spaced or not. I prefer the standard-spaced Distortion with a trem anyway - the trem-spaced is a bit more articulate, but to me it sounds compressed, and when you bend the strings off the poles, it seems like they lose sustain.

I'd assume the JB would be similar, since it's the same pickup with a different magnet (but the magnet could be what makes the diffy).

Haven't compared a standard Custom to a Trem-spaced Custom, though. I've got a trem-spaced Custom in my NASL160, and I like the tone.

Thanks Matt I looked at all of my guitars and only the string thru kelly has every string line up with the poles. My KV2 has a Trembucker in the bridge but a regular in the neck (stock) and the strings are just a little bit off center of just one pole for the neck pup. Just making sure as I ordered some duncans with black/green zebras (Jazz in neck disty in bridge) and wanted to make sure I did not totally screw up not ordering TB's. Although the Jazz does not seem to come in a TB. I might try to change the disty to a TB if I catch it in time

Your guitar will sound fine but you will loose lots of sleep and hair worrying about it

Neck pickups don't come in TB - at that point the string spacing is usually the same as a TOM.

The magnetic flux created by the string to pole interface will cause the polar ice caps to melt. Where do you suppose the polar bears will sleep now? Huh?:ROTF:

You should be OK. Just remember, when the Floyd was born there were no "F"-spaced Hums.
