  • Grover Jackson is back

I hope no one minds this copy and paste from the Jackson guitars myspace page:
"We also brought Grover Jackson back into the fold! Yeah, that's right, read it again, GROVER IS BACK!!!! He's designing some guitars (yeah dude, start saving, you want one) and he's also giving us guidance and ideas. Grover is a legend and there's not much more I can say other than I'm beyond stoked that I get to work with him!!! If you came to NAMM, you probably met him, if not... get out there this summer because he's an amazing guy and he invented the guitars we play. There simply are not many people like Grover in the world and it's a real pleasure to work with him."
Very, very cool. I wonder what they've got in store for us?

Don't worry - I'll smack her if it comes to that. You do not sell guitars to buy shoes. You skimp on food to buy shoes! ~Mrs Tekky 06-03-08~

Do you think it's kind of like Carroll Shelby being an "advisor" for Ford - a name historically associated with the brand, put on display for the public, but not really doing much?

            Probably a PR move.

I dought he will be on the assembly lines. If he is building guitars, my bet is it will be design a guitar & then maybe it gets put out as a production or "Special Custom Shop Run". Which would likely mean MEGA $$$.

Yeah, from all I've heard from folks in the new, it's a name licencing thing only i.e. no practical input and he's not an 'employee' in any way...

Its the same BS move that got all the old guys back into the CS shop. The delusion that they are master builders Blah blah blah. marketing at its finest the sheep follow to the slaughter.

Having those guys back is meaningless. Who builds your guitar is meaningless. Do you love it or not?

I have a guitar built by a guy local here. Love it. He is a not known. Cost me $800 start to finish. Prefect in every detail. I took his standard model and made no less that 12 mods. NO CHARGE.

Good news for wealthy nestagia people, bad news for working stiffs that dig jackson/charvel.

Thanks for the post though. Contributions like your are what keep the board going. thanks again for contributing.

Well, that explains the price hikes, but not the option reductions.

Way back when, I recall an interview in a magazine with Grover where he was asked about the $2500+ price tag on Jackson guitars (which as many recall was about twice what a new Les Paul Custom cost), and his reply was basically that "people see a high price and they automatically assume it's better because it costs more".

While few here would argue against the notion that the 80s Jacksons were great and definitely at least as good as a Les Paul or USA Strat (top of the line at the time), there's not much evidence to refute Grover's claim.

People are still dumb enough to overpay for anything and swear it's better than anything that costs less, simply because it is more expensive. There's the psychological influence that makes them think a higher sticker price means they used the absolute best materials and the world's best luthiers to make it, and all the work was done using hand tools like rasps, planes, and such, and the only electrical equipment in the shop was the radio they listened to, and they worked in the dim glow of oil lamps to fill the room with olde worlde mojo while they labored lovingly over each instrument.
                        :bs:

The sad reality is, it's all :bs:

I have been reading with interest the discussion here about the custom shop, and what is going on. I had also heard last week from Neil at Wild West Guitars in Southern California that Grover was back. I was not sure it would be (in and of itself) something important.

What is going on with the custom shop? I have read several discussions that reference it somewhat tangentially here. I had heard that it was taking forever for them to build things, and (from here) the recent NAMM guitars were priced like Scion autos. Shame really, because I thought this beastie was very nice indeed...

Newc, I am appalled. More $$$ is better, stop with your anti-American attacks. Are you some kind of terrorist? Or a member of some crazy cult? I hate to do this but I feel I must contact the Department of Homeland Security and report your traitorous ways.

                              Whatever you say, Adolph
Seriously, if that were true, my guitars would have sold already

The Kelly is blah, IMO, but what's that 2 spaces behind it? Some sort of map Soloist?
