  • Poll: which pups, hardware?

Perhaps this should be in the import section, but since this is an appearance/technical/hardware question, I thought it would be relevant here. Feel free to move to the appropriate area.

I have heard many good things about the SH/TB5 Duncan custom and it is high on the list along with active emgs, not sure which way to go, so let me know what you think!

Another question. Which Duncans? SH or TB spaced. The string spacing seems rather wide on my slsmg. The neck even feels noticeably wider than my other Jacksons. I have heard that some modern tunomatics are in fact trem spaced. True? Sure feels that way, though this is the first fixed/tunomatic I have played in a while.....

Can't get the poll to work so......
    1. Black Duncan custom/ Bridge Black Duncan 59/ Neck
    2. Reverse Zebra Custom/Bridge Reverse Zebra 59/Neck
    3. EMG 85 /Bridge EMG 60 or 81 Neck
    4. Same as option 2 with chrome hardware change
    5. Same as option1 with chrome hardware/ shown with Duncan dime pups
    6. Same as option 3 with chrome hardware change.
    Vote away....weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...............

EDIT: The poll is working now......

      I say #1.

Partially because black hardware looks classier than chrome in my opinion. Secondly because the pickups mentioned are the best out of the options presented, and once again, they look their best in black.

      So that's my vote! #1!

I voted for number 3 (85 bridge with 60 or 81 neck), but 2 is a good choice as well.

I have a soft spot for chrome hardware, but I like black nearly as much. I can't vouch for any particular combo in terms of looks. They all look really good.

As for the sound - what sound are you after? I used to swear by EMGs, but these days I can't stand them. But I've also changed my sound from a mid-scooped Metallica-esque thing, to a "retro-aggressive" sound with a lot of high mids (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Painkiller-era Priest). I'm in passive pup jungle now.

As for pickup size - I have SH sized pickups in all my guitars (floyded and no floyd), and it works great. The "TB vs SH" issue is purely cosmetical.

                    #1 definitely

Zebra hums and chrome hardware have nothing to do with the eds finish imo..

So the only options for me are 1 & 3 And I think duncans look better

Black Duncans + black hardware = cool guitar that sounds great.

                          Good choice on the Custom!

EMG's all the way (18 volts though) with chrome. I love the way EMG's look popping out of chrome rings..........Ahhhhh very cool look! Just like mine! You might not see by the picture but it has chrome p/u rings. Makes it look classy IMO!

#2 looks the best out of all of them and you'll get a good sound out of the Custom/59 combo, but I love EMG's Decisions, decisions........
