  • Transparent black and transparent black sunburst.

I've just ordered a Jackson Stars Kelly with quilt maple top in transparent black.

The shop has come back to say the factory have two finishes, transparent black and transparent black sunburst. I've asked the shop for pics of both. If they send me photos, I'll post them, but can any JCFers help me out?

I've seen a KE1T in trans. black., but it looked different to the ususal trans black. Is it actually trans. black. sunburst? I only have the one rubbish picture, sorry:

    Thanks,

    Ken

All i can say is "Cool"! I would think the sunburst would have more of a
1" thick black area around the outside? I love anything in Black stained
quilt! Looking forward to seeing some pics when you get it? :-)

The shop got back to me pretty quickly saying that the only difference is that with sunburst:
"the edge of the body is darker and darker".

They also sent me this picture of a Kelly with a trans. black sunburst finish (but on flame maple):

I guess it's just a preference thing, but if anyone has a couple of pictures knocking around of both finishes, I'd really appreciate seeing them.

      Cheers,

      Ken

Sorry, we must have been both replying to my post at the same time, as I only saw your post after I wrote mine!

It looks like you're right about the dark edges. What would your preference be: sunburst or no sunburst?

Should be a cool guitar regardless!

        Cheers,

        Ken

Not a kelly, but here are two Jacksons in trans black - the guitar on the left is a year or so old, the one on the right 17 years old...

Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Thanks! I think I was getting confused between the older (less black stain - like on your Spitz guitar) and the newer, darker stain, believing one to be Trans. Black and the other to be Trans. Black. Sunburst. However, I guess it's just a new dye.

I think I'll go for the sunburst...

I`m glad I didn`t buy trans black ... I like the solid black finish more...
But, that Kelly looks nice with it...

the trans blk. flame is sweet. i'm more of a flamer than a quilter, but either is prefered over paint. something about natural is timeless.
...that taste like tart, lemon yogart

Thanks for the opinions people! I've asked for trans. black sunburst on quilt. Apparently the order will go to the factory on Monday. Fingers crossed.

                      I'm a quilter myself.

Expect pics in 3-4 months, once it's built!

I know why you like solid colours, but I've grown more fond of natural finishes as I get older.

And I already have a (2002) KV2 in black. I'll post pics in the "post your Vs" thread.

i'd favour the sunburst over the normal trans finish.

the sunburst seems like the standard trans finishes on the soloists.
                            am i wrong?

I think the sunburst will give the back of the guitar/neck a solid black (if the sunburst color is black) finish while the non sunburst would be trans back (not in a quilt or flame tho) finish. I like the sunburst but both are nice.
