  • Some help identifying a KV

Well, at first, this is my first post and I hope to post some more...

The issue is, a friend of mine is selling me a Jackson King V Shaped guitar, but he doesnt know the series or the model (KV1, KV2, etc...) the guitar is.

The guitar description is as follows:

    1. KV Shaped.
    2. Two humbuckers Duncan Designed.
    3. Floyd reads "Jackson".
    4. One tone, one Volume.
    5. Shark Theet inlays.
    6. Bolt on neck.
    7. He bougth the guitar betwen 1999 and 2000 (year).
    8. It doesnt say "made in usa" on the head stock or somewhere else.
    9. the bridge, The volume, the tone and the tunners are opaque silver (not shiny)
    10. If I'm not wrong, the neck plate has a 6 number serial.

Then if someone can help me, I want to know if it's an USA guitar and by the description if it's a good choise for my first guitar.

He is selling it for US$ 650 with it's harc case.

    Thanks.

Sounds like a KV3. They were made in Japan. http://www.audiozone.dk/CatalogScans...1999Page11.htm

It was made in Japan, jackson floyd rose copy, cheap pickups, not worth 650$, maybe 350$ at most in USA.

THe KV3 was a well built MIJ import. The JT580 trem is an ok Floyd knockoff, but I'd suggest replacing with a Schaller or go all the way with an OFR. Those pickups however are c-r-a-p with a capital C!!!!!!! Not really my cup o tea because it's got 22 frets, but if it is in good shape with a good looking finish, I really wouldn't be too surprised to see something like that go for as much as $450 with the hard case. $650.....I think not. If you really want it, offer $450 cash take it or leave it. If he takes it, remove and replace the pickups and trem then flip the parts on EBay to get some of your cash back. That way you'll have a really nice axe at not too bad a pricetag.
Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!

Hey guys, thanks so much for all your help, it is too useful. Some little thing, I'm a newbie on this topics about guitars, so I believe that OFR stands for (Original Floyd Rose). And by the way, any advise for the pickups? EMG passive maybe?? And the "Schaller", sorry, but what is it?

Schaller is a licensed Floyd copy.

Yes you are correct about OFR. Schaller makes licensed Floyd copies......the best copies. If you can get your hands on an old Schaller JT590lp trem like the ones in the old legendary late 80's early 90's pro series....... You'll probably never have to replace it.

The JT590 is the Floyd Rose II, and is my favorite trem of all time. There is no JT590LP that I'm aware of. Wasn't the JT580LP was a crappy Takeuchi copy of the Floyd Rose Pro?

The JT580LP is whatever low-profile licensed trem Jackson feels like using at any given time. I own(ed) three mid-90s USAs with JT580LP trems, the current DK2M has one, and almost every Pro and MG has had them over the years. The old ones were Takeuchi, and pretty highly regarded by some folks. The current one is Gotoh I think. I've never had problems with the 580s, and plenty of headaches with Schallers. Just my luck.

Ron, for you it's too much....but the trends show that people will indeed pay that much if it is minty fresh with a good hardshell case. Remember it's not an X or JS or even Performer Series. That much would not be out of line for an RR3 or a KE3 with a case, and the KV3 is not as common.

Well, the JT590 that came out of my Warrior Pro was a direct replacement for a JT580lp without any mods, so I just put the "lp" tag on it. The spring block is the same dimensions as the 580lp not long like a standard unrecessed trem spring block. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that a JT590 will be a direct replacement for the 580LP.

I owned a JT580LP and it was crap. Didn't like it one bit. I've never had any problems with the JT590's, and have had problems with the OFRs... Besides, I like the feel of the JT590/FR2 better.
