Still have no idea why someone may want a rip-off under another brand logo.
Well, it may happen under endorsement. The artist used to playethe guitars of the brand A, but has got a good offer from the brand B, so the brand B is making him a close replica of his "A" guitars.
    Because I don't say it
    Doesn't mean I ain't thinking it

Can you order a Strat Head without the "licensed by Fender" decal? on back of headstock.

Ah its probably cheaper to make a frankenstien guitar with parts from cheaper guitars and have a local guy paint it for you, what EVER color you want. Save some money and get what you want.

No, but it peels right off as long as you order an unfinished neck.

Actually, they forgot to put it on my 25th anniversary Charvel from the factory I'm the original owner and I picked it up at the store and noticed it had no sticker on the back of the headstock. It wasn't laying in the case either so it didn't just fall off. Whether it has that sticker on the back of the headstock or not makes no difference to me.

No prob man, but you hit it right on the spot!

This is kind of ridiculous. I mean why order a custom if you can't really get what you want. I guess there are heck of a lot guitarplayers who got inspired mainly by some arist instrument and getting something similar is a really close thought (and one of the reasons getting in touch with the company who was builing the original). And then being turned down... I can understand why people consider going to another company then. I guess that is one of the reasons why jackson lost so many customers and artists (and those all moving to ESP).

Good post VitaminG. I have no beef with J/C not making certain body shapes - it's obvious that this could be a problem for them legally. So if you want and Explorer or Firebird go get a Gibson.

Plus, there are plenty of other things on the list that are lame enough to keep this list alive.

The bottom line is that there is no "true" custom shop out there that is operating legally in the United States. There are a number of builders still flying under the radar here and there but if you read up on some of these guys you will find they have plenty of issues of their own. Go read the vendor section on Jemsite for some stories about a number of custom builders. If you can/will shop outside the US, then your options expand significantly. Personally, I'll stick with builders like GMW or Suhr .

Not calling Jackson Custom Shop a true custom shop is a bit dishonest...

Sure, there are limitations, and some of them are silly or downright stupid... However, it's up to you to create something unique and different, instead of copying something that's already been done before.

Saying "oh they won't make me a VVV or Vivian Strathead" doesn't make them not a custom shop. And besides, if you're ordering a replica guitar, it really isn't a 'custom' one off anyways. :p

I would have to say my XTRR is quite a bit different than most orders, as was Mikernat's sparkly Demon.... They'll still make you what you want, but you gotta think original.

Xeno said his XTRR differed from his specs a little, so they'll get close to what you want if you're original.

What if I want a totally unique and original BARITONE?That's actually what bugs me most about the list... I can somehow understand all the legal stuff like not copying Gibson shapes, and I'm not going to argue with the no-replicas-rule.But why don't they build baritones anymore? Well at least they seem to still be doing seven-strings...Another question just popped into my mind:Can you get stainless steel frets? I remember reading something about them being hard on tools, but I don't remember the context where I've read that... did it have to do with the Jackson CS?

I want a 3-octave 26.25" scale semi-hollow singlecut. Never seen one but as I understand it that's a no-go at the Jackson custom shop now. Too original I guess ....
