      That looks like mine!

Wow, the headstock clearcoat issue seems to be quite a problem.

Wow..you wouldn't even see that on many Korean guitars.
They'd be out of business if it was. Maybe it'll have a collector value as the 'clearcoat logo lift run' in about 20 years. of course.. I jest..don't mean to jab it in and twist. You should get it replaced to retain value.

I was hoping to get some good feedback, and wondered if anyone elses Charvel has done it.Looks like im not the only case.
I was in denial at first and kinda strugged it off,but when my friend noticed it and demanded me to have it fixed, well here I am.
So how many of you guys either had same issue or know of this issue? What causes this? Is it in only the newer ones?
At first I thought it was a mar from hanging in the store, but when it wouldnt clean off I knew it was skin deep.

Is it me?...or is it getting harder and harder to find good guitars, free of "defects", regardless of the manufacturer?

Good luck gettin things straighten out.

Not you. These days quantity over quality is the practice.I will going foward and making a return visit to the music store and show the manager.Im just another victim of lack of QC. My MIM Strat was sweet and only had a set up issue, and small neck pocket gap, besides that it was a great guitar and I expect that in a super mass produced guitar, but these Charvels are built in small #'s so not sure how that passed,or maybe they are finding out that a process in the headstock (glue) was defective?
You would think they would all be near perfect, nothings perfect though, and human factor( hands on) sometimes things happen. Just glad its not a neck-thru and a bolt-on.

ps: Of you who had this issue, how long did it take to get corrected, new neck?

That's exactly the same problem we had with the Dweezil and Solar small batch runs. The issues with the Russian Submarine run were caused by the same thing, but instead of the clear coat lifting at the edge of the headstock, it was lifting around each of the tuning machines.

Definitely a recurring problem. The guitar needs to go back to the factory, they'll either put a new neck on it or refinish the headstock.

My tech used a little krazy glue, turned the headstock upside down so the glue would run in to the lifting area. It fixed it pretty well.

If this is a brand new guitar...by all means, take it back. If not...you can try that method. Sorry to see it, but it's not the first time and prolly won't be the last time we see that happen.

From what I have heard, there has been issues with a House of Kolor product called SG100, which is a clear base intermediate clear. I sent them some different stuff for Antonio to try. The HK stuff was staying too soft for a long time and doesnt play well with the polyester topcoat. They like to separate. I do not know if the paint shop has made a materials process change in regards to this issue. I am sure there is paper work involved with the change of process. But I can guarantee you that this is the type stuff that Jackson/Charvel does not want to have happen and create upset customers. Shame that it has.

so mike, they mix the HOK interclear with the WLS clear? while i know that many times you can mix and match brands, they explicitly say on the HOK site to not mix and match. granted, some of that can be coming from the angle of wanting to sell more of their own products, but it seems like they're not messing around in this case.

Yeah buddy, sounds like a chemical reaction going on. I know, I never mix manufacturers finishes when painting. I stick with the same manufacturer all the way out except when I use Urethane clear on Createx Auto Air colors. I just make sure the waterbased Auto Air paint is cured before clearing it.

I dont think I can take it back (Refund).Ive had it since Presidents day (Feb 19th?)and it was a small music store, not a GC or anything. I do know that it was in their store for a year. They only had the one(mine) and was ordered.
Since Charvel is aware of this issue,I will have to go thru the steps to get it resolved. I hope I dont have to send the entire guitar back, rather have a new neck replacement and use my defective one in the meantime.
worst case. . .Id really like to have the headstock color matched,so if they decide to refinish it.. .maybe for my inconvience comp me.

I guess you are not familiar with how Charvel handles these situations.

They will want the whole guitar back.
They will not compensate you for jack shit.
You're supposed to smile and say "thank you" when they finally decide to return it to you.
One of my guitars required a body swap, Floyd was installed crooked, took 2 months to get it back. And I had JW from Jackson helping me.
Either refin it yourself or be prepared to wait.
