yep... as mentioned, the profits of the swag sales will go back into the board. we're talkin about giveaways, but we have NO idea what kind of contest to run....so i turn it over to you. want some free stuff? i mean, really cool free stuff? stuff that will get your nuts noosed if you win it and then flip it on ebay? then come up with a cool contest; i'm outta ideas.

it's gonna take a while til we're ready, but we'd like to know your thoughts on this. hell, you're the one who'll be winning it, so why not work for it a little?

and a JCF forum Custom Rhoads, Kelly, Dinky, Soloist, Warrior, King V. You could come up with a nifty graphic for them.

lol, i think he wanted us to find ideas for a CONTEST, not PRIZES! :lol

One idea would be to post a riff and see who could come up with the best solo for it. That could take some time tho, but I'm guessing you guys wanna get away from the standard draw-a-name-out-of-a-hat deal.

Yeah ..We want away from lets draw the name from the hat ... riffin is a cool idea but it kinda limits the contests towards more experienced players ... any other ideas?

The problem with that is you have quite a few "old timers" (in Board years) who admit they can't play all that great, and are too timid to post their playing (VitaminG has stated something to that affect several times).
Plus, "best" is always subjective.

If this was the old board, we could decide the winner based on post count [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] but that would be me! Damn, I miss my 8000+ posts rating [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/tongue.gif[/img]

lol yea. I meant 'best' in simply the most creative solo, not necessarily the best shreder. (could maybe hold a poll,etc..)
but yea i see how that would still really limit possible contenders.... (including me!! :lol)

So, i wonder if we could adopt an old game we used to play when hanging out in friends houses, bored stupid, listening to metal in front of the CD player.

Could you make, let's say, 10 music samples available online, 100-300mSec each, preferably the start of some popular metal songs. Contest would be who will guess the most correctly, naming band and song title. Guessing should be submitted hidden of course and revealed later. Running time a week or so. Lot's of tweaking could be done to this contest. Maybe guessing guitar solos from a 200mS clip.

Or maybe i should just go to bed instead of posting lame posts on JCF [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I suggest maybe having a java script quiz about something.

or...just watch the price is right. Bob Barker is a goddamned genius. There are tons of fun things to do with those type of games.

Nah, a lot of us know a lot of things. I don't know too much about USA Charvels. But I was trying to come up with something that is common to us all. Metal music should be, but not everyone here is gonna agree on what metal is. To me it's: Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, RATT, Dio, Dokken, Anthrax, etc. Not this new age poop the kiddies are so fond of now. [img]graemlins/evilimages/icons/tongue.gif[/img]
