Re: jackson / esp lawsuit

I think Jackson might have sued ESP for using their headstock shape, since older ESPs had the same exact shape as Jackson. I'm not sure if Jackson actually just talked to ESP and threatened them about it or if they really sued.

Besides, what possible reason could ESPee have for suing Jackson? ESPee has outright ripped off, stolen from, and tried to make their guitars look, sound, and feel like Jacksons. Jackson's hesitancy to actually file suit was due to the fact that despite this outright copying, ESPee still couldn't get it close. Dumba$$es.

        Re: jackson / esp lawsuit

I saw a picture in an old Guitar magazine of Dimebag Darrell holding what appeared to be an ML with a Jackson headstock and sharkfins. It didn't look quite right, so I asked Kevin about it. According to him, ESP tried to copy the headstock and sharkfins from Jackson and nearly got their ass sued off over it.

          Hey BM,

I'd really like to see that picture. Could you post it please?

Criss Oliva's blue 'gargoyle' guitar is actually an ESP, but it was re-badged as a Jackson when he got the endorsement.

to awnser your second question. the ESP signature series are made in Japan and the costum shop is also located there.

you will see some playes (Jeff Hanneman, Slayer for example) who play made in the USA ESP costums. So I think they actually have two costum shops..

but most ESP guitars are made in Japan

Dimebag also played a Jackson ML style guitar. Remember the video from "Cowboy's from Hell"?

From what I understand, ESP is having custom guitars made by some firm in LA too, so there are USA ESP customs again...

From what one friend told me, you can order a Custom ESP made in Japan or USA.

the old "custom" ESP shop 48st custom in NYC never actually BUILT GUITARS, they would just get custom bodies & necks from ESP & assemble them to the customers specs.

All Dimebags pointy headstocked MLs were BC Richs if I recall....we got into a convo about this on the old board and someone who worked for BC Rich during the Class Axe era was talking about it...plus in the VDOP liner notes Dimebag says he played Deans and BC Richs...

Whatever they were, they were NOT Jacksons.

as far as I know that axe in the CFH video was something he had built himself of a dean body and a Jackson neck because he liked the jackson specs better than the original neck...
