I decided to write this to let FMIC how I feel about my USA San Dimas:
Im writting this to let you know how dissatisifed I am with my brand new Charvel San Dimas #6989 which was sent back to be repaired for the defect on the headstock.( ie: H**** music) I have seen several other San Dimas' with the same exact issue??? This is not an isolated defect if you will.
So my concerns are. . . how long will this take? I only had my Charvel 2 months, now im without it and not happy!
I dont know why it had to be sent back when its a bolt-on NOT a neck thru! and FMIC/Charvel could of sent H***** ( the authorized Charvel dealer ) a brand new neck to replace the defective one.(in best interest for the customer). There was no communication between me,H***** and FMIC on what exactly was going to be done, repair it or replace the neck? refinish it? how long? Im concerned that it may do it again in the future.. .because of the case (read below)
Ive had plenty of Fenders/Jacksons/Charvels over the years and never had a problem like this. I currently own a 56 Custom Shop "Mary Kaye" Relic and the Quality and workmanship is top notch, unlike my Charvel. I had Jackson bolt-on #1010 in 1986 (for 10 yrs) and no issues with the headstock lifting. The 9th one built in the custom shop.
My other concern is. . .the G&G case that was supplied with my Charvel San Dimas is not the correct case for this particular style guitar. There is no neck support what so ever, leading me to believe that this may be a contributing factor (for the paint to lose adhesion)as all the weight is resting on the very point of the headstock, The case seems to be for a Stratocaster. When my Charvel is in the case,I can stick my fingers between the so called neck support and the guitars neck because the angled back pointed headstock is hitting the bottom of the case.I brought this up to Alan at H***** and said thats what it came in and also says "Fender" on it and not Charvel ???
Not to make this letter any longer but. . .I want to believe that "MADE IN USA" means that is the very best you can buy for the money. AND this Charvel is built in the custom shop too. . not a fast moving factory assembly line.AND what FMIC are charging for the Charvels is top dollar when they are not even close to being perfect. Im second guessing this as Ive been looking at the Jackson soloist imports from Japan and couldnt find a blemish/defect sloppy workmanship what so ever at 1/2 the price of what I paid.
So, I would like a app. date of when my Charvel will be fixed and sent back to me. What is the lead time on this? 6-8 weeks? I WILL not let this go on for months and months. I paid alot of $$$ for my Charvel to play & enjoy, not to be sent back because of poor workmanship (prep) to be sitting there in your factory for 6 months +. Im a avid member of the Jackson/Charvel forum and read many complaints about how long it takes for members that had to send thier Charvel/Jackson back for repair , in some cases. . .up to 1yr later after the final inspection was completed on a brand new CS Charvel.A San Dimas NOS just recently sold for a mere $650.00 on ebay due mainly because of the defect on the headstock.(seller posted pictues and noted the defect/blemish)
I would like a response ( I want answers) and your more than welcome to foward this to Mike Shannon. I want him to know how I feel and whats going to be done to rectify this ASAP. Ive lost my interest in the new "Fender" Charvels and most likely going to sell it when I finally get it back.Im that disgusted. I am considering legal advice and will pusue legal action if this goes on and on for months.. .and I will not accept my Charvel if the repair its not 100 % perfect and meets my complete satisfaction.I will demand a full refund from H**** first,if not from FMIC because of the lemons your building or consider a credit towards a FMIC product.(Jackson brand)
Thank You, Andrew
Here is the reply. . and it was the same day too w/happy ending.
Thank you for your inquiry. We are sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your recently purchased Charvel San Dimas. The purpose of this email is to inform you about the progress of your guitar and to address the concerns you brought up.
First off, we would like to let you know that we have received your guitar. It is in the shop, and being worked on right now. Generally, our turn around time for a warranty issue is less than 90 days. We have informed our top builders in the factory, and they are meticulously going over the guitar to make sure it is right, once it is done.
When it comes to our Jackson/Charvel and Fender Custom Shop instruments, we do ask that they come back to the factory for service if there are warranty issues. We do this to make sure that everything gets taken care of properly. Yes, it would be easy to just send a neck to a service center. But, these guitars are built by hand, from the ground up. We want to make sure that instrument is up to spec once it is done.
As for the case you got when you purchased your guitar, it was the wrong case. None of our Charvel instruments that have angled headstock ship with Fender cases. There may have been a mix up somewhere else along the line. We’re sorry it happened, and we are going to get you the correct case for that instrument.
As a manufacturer of instruments for over 60 years, we understand that manufacturing defects can occur. That is why we have a warranty. Not everyone is thrilled about sending their guitar to the factory for service. However, after years of experience, we find that it is quite effective. We hope you will keep your Charvel, and enjoy it for many years to come. If you have any further questions, feel free to email me or call our Consumer Relations hotline at 480-596-7195, M-F 8AM-4:45PM Pacific time
Now thats what I call customer service Nice to know that they do stand behind their product and warr. and thought it was a nice gesture to get me the correct case too.
ps: YES. .I do plan on keeping my Charvel.
