How did they simulate wear on the fretboard? Were these necks played for 1000s of hours or just artistically painted with grime?

For that price they should come autographed by the man but I guess he didn't autograph his own guitar so that would make it non-authentic.

I was thinking the same thing too the other day when reading another thread about the same guitar. VH recorded so many great riffs and solos using a beat up parts mutt. Then you go to guitar boards like these and people talk as if the finest minute imperfect detail in the fretwork makes a guitar unplayable to them.

I do really appreciate the work that goes into making a replica of a worn guitar. That itself is interesting to me. But if I was spending $5k plus I'd want a guitar that looked brand new.

I wonder if it actually smells like cigarette smoke too?

Wha'd they do the burn marks on the head with, a soldering iron?

They actually aged the neck (artificially), but those are real cigarette burns on the headstock.
The one Ed played at NAMM actually has an extra burn.
If you watch the video of the demo, he put it back on the wall with a lit cigarette still stuck in the headstock.

These "vintage" guitars are silly. If you want to be like EVH, then make your own mutt, don't buy a $25k replica.

According to what I read Chip Ellis did do alot of the work, I'd be surprised if he built all 300 from start to finish by himself though.

I think eddie mentions these reflectors in the GW article. He's saying something like at the end of the show, he used to hold up the guitar over his head to cover his eyes from the blinding overhead stage lights and at that time he thought about the reflectors-idea. The reflectors would reflect off the light and look super cool. Something like that... And yes, those are real cigarette burns. I think for some "burns" the Custm Shop also used a soldering gun to make the burn marks look EXACTLY like on the original. Maybe I will go back and re-read the article.
