With the crazy CS price increases back in January, I'm wondering if it has affected the number of CS orders? There's probably no way to get hard numbers from Jackson/Charvel, like # of CS orders as of 07/18/07 vs. 07/18/06, but maybe the dealers can chime in with how it has affected the number of orders through their shops? Just curious, thanks.

All of the options are available that I know of, I have 8 Custom Shop Charvels on order right now with two more that I am considering. The price increase has effected my orders some, but only on the pre-existing custom shop designs. For instance... why would I order a "Black Hole" Charvel this year and pay more for it while there are still dealers selling them at last years prices, it's better for me to come up with new designs in order to be unique.Shibs

Like Jack, unless the prices return to a more sensible level, I can't see me ordering anything else from the CS. Nearly 4k for a maple neck dinky in solid white is just nuts.....

I just hope the JC custom shop doesn't start to look like the Fender "Team Built" custom shop. They are VERY restrictive. The Team Built order form is like two pages, and if there isn't a check box with the option you want, you can forget it. That was my experience, anyway (going thru the Guitar Center)._________________________________________________

I just got my dream custom shop Charvel on Friday... except it's not a real Charvel. I wanted to order it through Charvel, but because of the ridiculous prices and wait time, I went a different route.
Dinky body made by Mojo, neck by Musikraft, paint by Marty Bell, bought all the parts, had another guy assemble it. Whole thing took 4 months and cost less than half of a custom shop guitar. AND, it looks and plays killer. I'll post a thread with pics soon. It's gorgeous.Breaking Point, my all instrumental CD available here:

Hard to say what the real impact on custom shop orders has been. We'll certainly never know for sure. Only J/C itself does.
Anecdotally, though, it seems like there are a lot of custom jobs at dealers with large price tags that have been "peg warming" for quite a while. Months and months, even. I'm sure some of them have to do with undesirable graphics and whatnot, but I do think J/C has got to re-evaluate whether they overshot the price point on customs.
I suspect reducing the number of custom shop orders was part of the goal with the price increases, though. I mean, higher prices = better profit margins per guitar. And, with the same or better overall profits, at lower production volumes = more opportunity for better attention to detail and QC. Hopefully that improves with time. But, just looking at less customs moving at dealers, etc, I do wonder if they overshot their intended price point "target" too much with that last round of increases.

I took myself out of the sweepstakes right after the new price list was published. I had three Charvel CS axes on the design board and have gone cold since then.
After that, I have placed four CS orders with other manufacturers and have not looked back. There are plenty of capable and more importantly REASONABLE shops out there.
It will be interesting to see where this is heading.Mr. Patience.... ask for a free consultation.

I had 2 ideas I was seriously kicking around and tried to get one quoted before the new prices went into effect. But It didnt go thru and I too after months of thinking decided to take my business to another company.
But then I'm not sure if I'm gonna be saving any money
But man I do miss seeing all the CS shop porn. we rarely get any these days.
