It seems like any machinist could make you a baseplate and sustain block compatable with OFR stuff to fit on an 8-string. Just add 8 OFR saddles and be all set!

Yep, it's very easy I've made the sustain blocks and hardtails ..and FMIC has an onsite model shop so they should be able to do it without issue

Not really unless your pickups have a really loose low-end, chording is difficult unless you compensate for the tension but it works just fine.

IMO, seven strings is pushing it, eight is just silly.

ibenez wasnt the first seven string or 8 string guitar makers. conklin guitars made the long before ibanez developers grew out of diapers. but yes ibanez was the first production model 7 and 8 string guitars.

Epiphone built George Van Eps a 7 string in 1938, and Gretsch did a signature model 7 string in 1968.

Why not just have seven strings and tune them lower?

The 8th string adds an advantage of hand position that isn't available on a 6 or 7, and it adds notes to the overall range of the instrument. Dat's why dey do it.

I will have an 8 string around next year winter!
It will be Low A to High G and 27 frets!The possibilities are extreme ,and Fan Freted design clears the tension issues!
8 strings are fun to play ,and cool for "one man" bands!

I saw one of the Ibanez 8 strings yesterday in SA... pretty neat looking, but nothing I would really want to own... Im still struggling with 6!
