  • Model 88 Question

Model 88, horse traded my way into this one about 12 years ago.

Mine has all the features, but a couple of differences:

    It has a tone knob
EMG gold or 85 active pickup
Black tremolo arm instead of chrome

Was it possible to order these on the Model 88?

Other than that, excellent condition, chainsaw case, one of the best sounding and playing Charvels or Jacksons I've ever played, and I used to own a music store, and saw many.

    Cygnus X1

    Model 88
    Hamer Phantom A5
    Homemade BICH
    Kramer Berreta
67 SF AB763 Deluxe Reverb with 2x12 Cab
    Peavey Studio Chorus 210
    Kustom Commander 2x12 combo
    Boss OD-1& Arion stereo delay
    Franken-Parts ad nauseum

Both the Charvel and Jackson 88 Limited guitars were set spec. Any changes your's has would be aftermarket...
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

Yes, tone knob and pickup are mods. Black tremelo arm, probably not a problem, as long as it's still got the Jackson JT6 trem.

        model 88 mod?

The cavity on a model 88 is large enough to accomodate the tone knob
and the battery for the active EMG?

        It doesn't look modified...

I need to get some pictures posted.

What does the back plate of an 88 look like?

        Thanks,

The cavity is big enough easy. I had an 89 in my 88 once, not a problem.

The model 88 (mahogony) Charvel came with 1 vol only no tone knob.Angled J-95 pickup and JT-6 trem.I've had so many JT-6 trem equipped guitars over the years and most came new with a chrome trem arm.
BTW what is the serial number? there is a web site and registry for these guitars you need to go there and register it.There were only 1000 made 500 to the USA and 500 for the Japan market.

Just landed an 88 today at the Cinci Ohio guitar show.Serial number 0299 all original 8 out of 10 shape OHSC is in prefect condition.
If someone has a link to the 88 registry web site I can't find it.

Alright, I figured out how to size the pic a little better.
I have GOT TO get that sticker off of it. Any suggestion of
                      safe removal?

Number is kept confidential. It's under 500.

"Simple Green" or "Goo Gone" should take it off without hurting the finish.

                          Good,
now how to keep from scratching it there once it's gone?
Change my right hand method...or wear a modified (black!)
                          glove?

Weren't they supposed to come with a chainsaw case, or was that optional?

Not that I'm a purist...mine has a tone knob and EMG added...

Gray Charvel case in the attic somewhere...
