I've heard mixed things. Would you say that Jackson's quality control has gone down since the whole Fender deal?

    Hasn't changed in my opinion.

        Why is that?

I dont think so. . .cause back in the day (mid 80's) I have played and saw some Jacksons with blemishes, crooked OFR's, body binding that was sloppy and glue smeared etc.

because this is the USA/custom area and this question and thread has nothing to do with USA or custom guitars.

            but I'll answer anyways...

the ONLY concern I have with this.. (and many others as well) is the price increase... The quality is consistent and has never dropped down drastically at one point or another.

when will prices for the Custom Shop go normal or affordable?!

I also have not seen the quality changing in any noticable way in pre and post Fender days, but Fender really pegged the prices on the imports and USA-production Jacksons first............and later on the Custom Shop Charvels as well...........

The Jacksons I've seen look and play about the same.
As for Charvel they had NO clue whatsoever what they were getting into.

Actually the quality in the last months of AMIC ownership were absolutely horrible... with the JCF01 series, and a bunch of customs coming in with cracks, paint drips, etc... Right after Fender bought them, quality did spike, but is kind of coming back down to where there are a number of reported common problems.

Overall though, they really haven't changed. I'd probably rather have a newer one than any late AMIC Jackson.

I still think that 88-89 and the mid 90's were the best years for Jackson's custom shop.

IMO, 1986 was the best (San Dimas) only cause I had one. .. . .#1010 (9th CS bolt-on)

Who said this is the USA/Custom area? USAs and Customs are usually handled in the respective USA Jacksons or USA Charvels sections. The original question applies to both. So with that said, wouldn't it be logical to place the post/thread in the "General Jackson/Charvel Talk" category?

As far as the original topic, I'd have to say that the transition didn't happen as smoothly as some of us would have liked. Nowadays there have been some issues with quality control and with that the price increases seem a bit out of place. Bringing some of the old-school luthiers back into the Jackson/Charvel fold is certainly going to be a plus, but reality is that with that kind of experience, there are going to be costs. JCMI and FMIC are businesses, they aren't going to suck all that up just so we can all have some great guitars.

Some of us have faith that the market will show JCMI management the right path to go. Certainly consumers will have to pay for quality, but if they have to pay too much for it, or they're currently not what they're paying for, then consumers go elsewhere.

Hopefully they find the quality assurance and the right pricepoint before things get worse.

It was originally in the Jackson USA section. I moved it here to General.
