Seriously...the points on my horns have taken three hard licks in as many weeks (and I am very protective of it). Is it mathematically possible to keep the paint on the points minty over the years?!? And NO the closet is not an option.

IMHO, pretty much no. The sharp point ends have so little surface area, that once they get banged, the paint is almost sure to chip. Or, to think of it another way, when you see chips on a Soloist or Strat body, where on the body are they usually? Yep. On the areas where there are sharp edges and angles, like the sides of the body, etc. That's why the points of KVs and RRs are so susceptible to dings and chips.

i remember a guy was selling some " tip protectors" on the bay. what you do is get some 1/8inch foam padding cut a 4"x 1" rectangle wrap around the point areas on the body it self. (think like a ice cream waffle cone.) then wrap some black tape around that."slappy, slappy" bill sings, happily, as he dick slaps random people on the streets of Cleveland.

I heard that some BC Rich custom shop pointies had some kind of clear tip protectors under the clear coat. Anyone know if that is true?_________________________________________________

If you're worried about bruising the finish of your guitar, then simply stop playing it. It means that the guitar is much too expensive relative to your income, and you will never be able to play it without worrying over it.
I am not careless with my guitars by any means, but the day I start worrying about the finish of a guitar - that's the day I sell it, or put it in a case for safekeeping.
