Considering trading my PRS for USA Jackson

Hey guys, recently I've really been looking into USA Jacksons, I've seen some in London and I've been drooling over them. They just look so well built and I've always wanted one since I first saw Mustaine and Friedman in the 97 Jackson Catalogue. I've got a 1990 PRS standard 24 which I love, I've modded it a bit, few dings on the headstock and very slight dings on the body, nothing major. Sounds great, plays great.

But does a PRS for a USA Jackson sound like a good deal? Or should I stick to the PRS?

I would absolutely hang on to that PRS. Get a Jackson when you can get the funds some other way.

Buy a used Jackson or maybe a Charvel model 6/650/750,.

keep the PRS beauty, like dg said, and save up for a Jackson.

Jackson's are great but you are assured of seller's remorse if you dump the PRS.

Considering that's a "pre-factory" PRS, don't even think about trading it...

Keep the PRS, save up for a Jackson. But like j2379 said, USA jacksons are pricey over there, maybe go for a pro-line import.

I've had about two dozen gr8 custom shop or USA Jacksons. I would have probably traded any one of them for a PRS. PRS prices have kept me from ever buying one, although I currently own a PRS Se Singlecut which plays better than most of the guitars I have owned.

I've always found PRS' used prices to be quite reasonable, at least here in Toronto.

Hold on to it. Getting rid of a guitar you're not sure you hate is always a bad idea.

I think I'm going to disagree with most here. I don't really keep track of PRS prices so maybe your early PRS is worth a lot $ wise, I don't know. But to me a USA Jackson is unmatched in its quality, tone, playability. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the PRS isn't a good guitar but I do think they are over-hyped and over priced. If you are into hot rod cars you will see that a "Ford" can be made to go much faster than a Mercedes and more reliably to boot, Just sayin'

+1 I agree Rudy! I have played PRS's in the pre-factory days. I wouldn't compare it to a USA Jackson. I finally found Jackson's in 2004 and I thought, what did I miss? I should have played one sooner.

PRS's all look the same to me. I'd drop that PRS in a second for a custom shop Jackson.

My experience over the years has been that PRS guitars are fundamentally unwavering in quality - including their imports. The same cannot be said for Jacksons over the years - particularly the imports. I have never played a PRS in reasonable condition (as in not abused) that was not a very good guitar. I have however played a number of Jacksons that were serious dogs (both US and import).

I spent a good amount on a PRS CE24 Maple Top a few years ago. Something was wrong with the frets. PRS did not want to hear it and told me to live with it or sell it. PRS's are nice guitars but I'll never own another instrument from those fucks.
