It's all about the originality. Some want it original. Alot of buyers are turned off by a refinish. I know I would be. I really would be if I was buying over the internet unless I knew the place that did it. A stock 69 Roadrunner will always get you more than a modded one. Same principal here...

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying that's what I've seen. So baring that, I would keep it stock. If I didn't like the color, I would sell it to someone who does and buy one in a color I like. You would save yourself some money that way too...

Well, that's really the question, isn't it. What it's worth. If you just had to refin a Jackson, that would be the one to do it to. But the guy asked if it would kill the value and I think it will take a hit. Just how much depends on who does the refin...

A bad refin will drop the value of a $700 guitar to $350, if not lower...

I remember when I used to think that about 60's Stratocasters.

And, yes, there are collectors of the pre-90 Jackson bolt-ons.

A stock 69 Roadrunner is getting anywhere from like 5 to 20 times the original cost depending on options. Maybe more. What is that particular bolt on Jackson getting? 1/2 its original cost.....maybe? Paint the friggin' thing. Are we kidding here or what?:ROTF: If not, one of you "collectors" give him $1400 for it and let him buy the color he wants.

I'd only give him $1400 if it was green...

But you would have known that if your read his entire post.
Sorry, but I didn't see it written in his post that he got that photo from the gallery. When he wrote," I've also got one of these in blue" it seemed to imply that the one in the photo was his and he also had one in blue. There really wasn't much else to read. I think.

Personally, I'd be inclined to pay more for a Jackson guitar if it had the original paint that came from the factory.

Quality refinishes WON'T hurt the value of that kind of Jackson USA. Vintage Strats and Pauls, maybe, but weren't not in that league, fellows. I had my (boring) black Warrior refinished with a "Multi-Color Chinese Dragon" graphic with clouds on the back and all. Killer refinish. That Warrior might have been worth a grand at the time when it was black. Now, with that unique graphic I've been offered double that for it!
                      "Got a crazy feeling I don't understand,
                      Gotta get away from here.
Feelin' like I shoulda kept my feet on the ground
Waitin' for the sun to appear..."

How many people do you think said this same thing about Charvels in the early 90s?

But I agree with the majority here. If it's a quality refin, it won't kill the value. So paint it something that you really like and enjoy it.
