  • My new SL3 arrived. Yay! But dissapointed too...

Well, I had ordered a Jackson SL3, natural finish, online last week. It was an ex-demo model, and the advert stated it had the black hardware. I got it for £500, and, considering these things seem to cost from £700-£800 I believe I got an absolute bargain as it's in perfect condition. Ebay had one, also ex-demo - same specs exactly, but with a ding on the back - and it was £675 Buy It Now! So, £500 seems a good deal.
However, it doesn't have black hardware, it has the chrome - and a Licensed Floyd Rose, rather than a real one. It DOES say on the advert they can change their specs without notice, so I can't really do much. I could likely send it back for a refund, but what would be the point? I wouldn't get another one for such a nice price. So, although I was really happy to get hold of such a nice guitar, I can't help but feel disappointed that it's an older model.
I wouldn't normally bother much, but I've read people saying the newer models are WAAAAY better than the older ones. Doh!

The customer service rep actually told me they only got this guitar in January this year (2007!), so I had assumed it would be black hardware.

Ah well, never mind. I've played it for ten minutes and I LOVE the pups. Way better than the DiMarzio FRED and PAFJoe that I put in my RR3 - those DiMarzio pickups really don't have much character, or gain, considering someone like Satch uses them...I'm wondering if the guy I got to fit them never wired them up right, or put in some cheapo ones instead!

The action on my RR3 is a little lower than the SL3 though. But the natural finish on the SL3 is beautiful.

Overall, very happy, but a tad sad too.

The dealer probably got it as new old stock, which is probably why you got the good deal.

I don't know what aftermarket Floyds go for in the UK, but you could probably install one yourself and save some money over the cost of a new SL3.

That's why it's important to get confirmation before you buy.

Well, to be honest, I bought the thing not knowing about the "black hardware=better model" thing. I just saw the guitar, knew it was a bargain, read some reviews and decided to go for it before someone else beat me to it.

It was only once I registered on here that I realised the newer models were better.

You know, it's really odd to be able to reach 24 frets so easily. I 'm having to readjust my playing style to take into account the extra frets. It's obvious but I never realised it when I got the guitar.
Played the "Back In Black" album tonight with it, a Boss DS1 for the solos and the Marshall AVT20 on about 3/4 gain. Absolutely brilliant fun, best pups I've ever played. Every note sounds awesome.
