  • Where to find Jacksons in NYC

I'll be working in New York (Manhattan) for a month this winter, so I figured I'd seize the opportunity to go guitar shopping. Indeed, the low dollar almost makes it sound like a rational thing to do

So, I was wondering if any of you guys could point me to the best guitar shops in New York, in particular places where I would be likely to find some Jacksons. Maybe I can finally get that King V I've been dreaming about.

I travel all the time, but I really look forward to this trip Besides hunting for Jacksons, I hope to see a lot of live NHL games in MSG.

Thanks. And a happy New Year to you all!

    Cheers,
    Mads

If you can make it to Syracuse, there's

I used to go to W48th as a teenager in the late 70's early 80's. It was awesome and deals were to be found. I went again a few years ago and it was craptastic. Crazy money and a lot of the smaller stores are gone or don't have much of anything.

Anyone else been there lately? Am I way off base here?

No, you're not off base. I was just there on Saturday. I think it was Manny's that had a firecrackle Model 5 for over $1100! Seems a bit high to me. But with the US dollar so weak, they might be deals for outsiders. Hell, maybe this is why stuff is so high there, cos they get a big international crowd.

BTW, I didn't realize how close it was only a stone's throw from Times square. With all the large crowds this weekend, I'm glad I'm not there for New Year's Eve!

Are you without a car? You can take a train from Penn Station right out to Little Neck (just east of Queens) to go to the Music Zoo. Lots of Jackson's and Charvel's there. Or, you can take a different train and go out to Miller Place out on Long Island to the Guitar Asylum. GA is out there on the island, but you can enjoy the scenery on the way out and back.

I am from NYC and i can tell you that 48th street is a real joke,Guitar Asylum is the best place to go,maybe try my friend's(matt) store on 30th street between 7th and 8th avenue(30th street guitars),he rarely has jacksons in stock, but tons of real good guitars, the guy is really cool, always ready to help out and give you a good deal....he has tons of vintage/custom pedals....hope that helps.

I'm without a car. I'll be working on Manhattan and living there too, so no use for a car, I figured. I'll take that train. Thanks for the suggestions.

If I ever find myself in the US of A, Jacksons and NHL games will be my top priorities too.

                        I live in NYC.

                        48th Street

Mannys Music...not much here..they were bought by Sam Ash years ago so the selection is now more on the low end.

Rudys Music - home of the original Pensa Suhrs...they have some kool Bogner Heads and boutique pedals.

Sam Ash - hit or miss...mostly low-end guitars

                        14th between 5th and 6th

Guitar Center - huge store..definitely worth checking out

                        Long Island

Music Zoo is awesome...small store but ALL high-end

Boy, that really sucks about Manny's. I used to go there in the late 70's and early 80's. Great stuff back then!
Where is that Steve Pisiani (sp) guy? Is he at Sam Ash or Manny's. He sends me emails all the time on high end stuff.

yeah 48th street is not what it used to be at all. & as for guitar asylum, they have nice stuff but i wouldnt buy from them. great guys untill you have an issue with a guitar. they were of NO help when i had issues with a wayne that was bought as a present for me years ago. there are some nice store out on long island not too far from NYC.

GA is all the way out east 1 in hauppauge 1 in miller place. GC has 3 locations IIRC out on LI too. carl place , hauppauge/commack & one more i cant remember.... there are also a couple of sam ash's out on longisland but last time i was there they had garbage.
