I can see the unpaid labor angle, however, regardless of whatever "family structure" anyone points out, that is a private matter between the admins and Jeremy. If he wants to tell them "Hey, I'm keeping all the money, you're working for free", that's his freedom. If they want to work like that, that's their freedom. If they say "pay me or I bail", that's their choice as well.
However, "we", the General Population are not "entitled" to any sort of explanation from either side.
Yes, other boards do things differently. And? Should they all do the same? Has mankind truly found the secret to creating a Utopian society after all these millenia?
I doubt it, and I fail to see where Jeremy or anyone else is obligated to disclose any information regarding the behind-the-scenes operations. If he wants Adobe Illustrator for his personal use to do contract website development or to make vector-graphic anime porn, it's his business. If he buys it with Membership fees, it's still his business.
If he's raking in money hand over fist as was claimed in the other thread and is using the membership fees to may the taxes on that and spends 8 months of the year in Aruba screwing Natalie Holloway's rotting corpse, that's his business.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

It was a bad idea as was changing the classifieds over and over.
Anyway, this is not a democracy and the rules are the rules. Jeremy was gracious enough to let us debate the whole membership thing before implementing it. If you hate the way McDonalds makes their burgers, you wouldn't keep going to McDonalds. Why is it any different for the JCF?Scott

You know what, I rarely get involved in this stuff, but i've about had my fill of this and the "Classified" threads. I am NOT involved in the day to day intricacies that are jcfonline.com, so I cannot and will not speak for Jeremy here.
However...
Everyone has been coming (myself included) to this board for many, many years and enjoyed the benefits of it. All that time, there have been costs, not only monetary, but time as well, that have been poured into keeping this running smoothly. Does anyone give a rats ass about it? Does anyone appreciate all the effort? Does anyone stop to consider the money spent thru the years to keep this up, everyday, every week, every year you've been here?
From some i'm hearing (or reading) a resounding NO, and that's bullshit.
If you don't like the new Platinum membership idea, don't join. If you don't like how things are run, don't come here. Adding all these upgrades will take time (another thing most people don't understand) and i'm sure Jeremy is working hard at implementing them.
All this bitching sounds like a bunch of high-school kids trying to create drama. It really is bullshit.

Cool. Lord Of The Flies...
I do find it funny that the other thread seemed to be pulled just as the admins were saying they don't know where the money is going and they have not seen a dime...
All I want to know is, why the secrecy? People will always question something that is a bit secret. If Jeremy wants to make money, which I'm sure he is now, why not just say it? Why not just say, "It's my board, I made it, I came up with the idea, I want to get paid from you for it"? Where is the issue with that? Is it a problem with perceived backlash? And THIS hasn't caused backlash?
I think it's worse to censor then bring back the thread than it is to just say you're making money. I don't know why that has to be veiled in secrecy...
But it's not my money being "made" so I guess I have no say in it. But it seems like the ones who have don't either...
EDIT: And Ralph, it's not bitching. It's just wondering. I don't think you'd find anyone here that would say what you have. Maybe you think we are thinking it but it's not true. I've known a few that don't like it here so they don't come. If I didn't like it here, I wouldn't come here either. Give us a break, we are not idiots...Last edited by Bengal; 01-29-2008, 10:52 AM.I'm angry because you're stupid

And somehow the perception of the JCF at other boards is relevant to this board? Is the internet now a gated community where everyone has an obligation to one another?
As for "Noobs being treated like 2nd class citizens", when 90% of the Noobs that come here start off with a For Sale ad, and many of those in the past have resulted in taking the money and running, or misrepresenting what they had, then yes, all Noobs will be lumped into the same box. They came here to avoid Ebay fees, and had no way to verify their reputation. While it's the Buyer's fault for thinking only of the score and not the possibility of scam, that still gets put off on the Noobs in the form of derision.
If the statistics prove that 8 out of 10 emails with "Get rich quick" in the subject are scams, aren't you going to delete anything that says "Get rich quick"?
As well, if they had implemented a system where an icon is placed by the name of those who read the Rules before clicking "I Agree", it would be the rarest icon available.
As for the Classifieds, while there was new stuff everyday, it was mostly "junk" - pickups no one wants or has enough of already, guitars and amps that no one else wants, needs, or can afford, etc. Mostly it became a dumping ground for stuff that would have sold more quickly and found better use at the local music store, Ebay, or a pawn shop.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Newc,
Because this forum is made up by the "public". That's why. The admins don't make the forum, we do. That's why. Pretty simple...
EDIT: When Mid Amercan Power raises my rates, I ask why. When I have to pay anything, I ask why. I didn't have to pay here but some did and I've seen them ask why. Basic human nature...I'm angry because you're stupid

The membership is made up of the general internet public, but the administration and implementation is not. I don't see anyone throwing up servers saying "hey, I've got free server space available for board functions" or the like.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Who posts the majority of the posts? Who provides all the information to the noobs? Who answers questions about finish opitions? Who answers questions about the MSRP of a King V with Blue Ghost Flames? Not the admins, well, not all the time. It's the membership. So I would argue that the membership make the board, not the other way around...I'm angry because you're stupid

1) Factual responses = $5.00
2) Bullshit responses = $10.00 (require more thought)
3) Funny Pictures = $3.99
4) Shit Stirring = no charge for Platinum Members
5) Smartass responses = Priceless"POOP"

This thread embodies exactly why the JCF is a pale imitation of what it once was. Too much drama and not enough content with merit. It's a real shame....Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

I do kind of wonder where the money is going though. I understand that hosting costs money and that licensing the forum software costs money, but I thought the dealers supported all of that in exchange for free advertising. What could it hurt to post a quarterly forum budget? We may look at it and see some areas that could be cut, therefore saving Jeremy some cash. At the very least, it would quiet the few discontent members.
Why on earth do you care how Jeremy spends the money so long as the site is running and providing a service you deem worth the amount of money you paid?I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.
