Bad analogy - your house doesn't have a sign on the door that welcomes everyone to come in for free. A shopping mall or something similar would be a far more reasonable comparison - and people do generally feel free to raise concerns without fear of being booted.

You really aren't very good at analogies. You should try a different approach

I have raised a question in one of these threads before that I think deserves an answer. So maybe someone in the "know" will respond. It's an honest question.

So Platinum Members can get banned by a vote of thier "peers", right? OK, if that's the protocol for PM's, what about us non-PM's? Do the PM's still get to vote on the "other" section that we can't see? Or is it just up to the Admins like before?
      I'm angry because you're stupid

        The short short version:

I don't agree with random thread deleting, but I don't run the place. Life is too short to get upset over this. All this talk about McDonalds is making me hungry.

            However...

Everyone has been coming (myself included) to this board for many, many years and enjoyed the benefits of it. All that time, there have been costs, not only monetary, but time as well, that have been poured into keeping this running smoothly. Does anyone give a rats ass about it? Does anyone appreciate all the effort? Does anyone stop to consider the money spent thru the years to keep this up, everyday, every week, every year you've been here?

From some i'm hearing (or reading) a resounding NO, and that's bullshit.

If you don't like the new Platinum membership idea, don't join. If you don't like how things are run, don't come here. Adding all these upgrades will take time (another thing most people don't understand) and i'm sure Jeremy is working hard at implementing them.

All this bitching sounds like a bunch of high-school kids trying to create drama. It really is bullshit.
            + 1000

The only thing i'm against is how people are dealing with newbies. I don't remember it was that way when i first came here.

Reading this thread is hurting my head. Let's get back to Charvel/Jackson talk. Especially the debate over quality control

Funny, seems I've been reading a bunch of responses that are simply asking for clarification on these expenses so people know where their money is going. I don't see how that's bitching, not being appreciative, etc.

You know, people have calmly asked this question, and it's obviously met with fury from you guys. Seriously, the only time in these threads the lowly members have gotten upset is because their concerns are CONSTANTLY being disregarded by the same people who apparently need contributions to keep this site afloat. Every other response from an admin, however, has been breathing fire and there wouldn't even BE this debate if you'd just be straight with us.

I already paid, because I like this forum and the people here. If you want to submit me to my peers for TEH BANS~! or whatever, fine. This is just confirming my belief (as stated the first time this came about) that there would be a division between paying and non-paying members, where those who haven't paid "don't care" or "don't contribute anything", or whatever other bullshit it is.

Exactly my point about unnecessary drama. Why would you jump straight to that conclusion for any other reason?

Years of being on forums where such acts are the first line of defense? That this whole discussion is so heated for no real reason whatsoever? Deleting the first thread certainly added to it, but somebody figured that was necessary. Oh well, I've got bigger fish to fry so I'll bow out.

For the record, that was my FIRST response to all this, so i'm not sure where i've been adding to the fire or not being straight with anyone.

And anyone who's been paying attention should know that I rarely (if ever) ban anyone. Maybe 2 or 3 people in the 5 or so years i've been an admin.

Where is the money going? I dont know where ALL of it is going, but its obvious where some of its going:

1- Platinum members will have access to the NEW Custom Shop Generator! How fucking cool is that? So even if you bought the new membership JUST got get to that, theres your moneys worth right there.

2- Larger PM box, image uploading (only in classifieds at this point...?) Takes more server space and bandwith.

3- Upgrade modules for VB... not all of them are free.

4- VB licensing, it has to be renewed yearly to keep up with security updates... thats $30 a year right there

Right there are a few things that DIRECTLY affect us, and the money we paid. Im sure theres more, and yes, Im betting that there is a bit of a surplus... but so what? Noone forced us to pay. If you paid JUST so you can post in the classifieds, well the jokes on you, because the classifieds have sucked long before this whole ordeal... They have gone down ever since you werent allowed to reply to posts in there. IMHO, the new format pretty much sucks, its overly complicated.

They should be. Someone needs to be around for a while before I'll take them seriously, especially on the Web.

Personally, I feel that we can drop the classifieds altogether and just make it okay to post links to your own auctions on eBay or Craigslist.

Anyway, this is not a democracy and the rules are the rules. Jeremy was gracious enough to let us debate the whole membership thing before implementing it. The difference is that those in your house were invited and when they enter they are not shown a list of rules now are they? If I was invited into your house and the 1st thing I was shown was your rules Id leave ASAP. Youd do the same if I did it to you. They arent assumed to be douchebags or whatever they tend to get called. So what if someone wants to buy or sell gear here? If people would a little intelligence before buying from someone whose 1st post was a FS then we wouldnt need to create classified rules now would we? Buyer beware. SO what if someones 1st post on a jackson charvel forum is "hey where can I buy a decent jackson charvel guitar?"
At least they arent asking for ESP guitars

Oh yea if I go to Mcdonalds and they call me a derogatory name or treat me like less than a person because I didnt read the rules well yea Id leave. Nothing wrong with following rules but ya have to be a little less hostile when enforcing them dont you? Maybe show a little respect to get some??

Also McDonalds doesnt make me wait 30 days before I can get a burger do they?
