In many respects I agree with you Shawn. But I don't get water from the water company except through my payments. I am not at the water company every day trying to lend a hand. Which is what a lot of people do here. Because of that many people feel a certain level of ownership here. That knowledge is an asset to this board. I think the Administration should acknowledge that and the members need to know that this board does not belong to them.

I have never thought that this board belonged to me, even after all the contributions I've made. I share knowledge for the sake of enhancing an existing community, not so I can claim ownership or partnership.

If your health club or golf course membership had opportunities for you to keep out the riff-raff, entertain the other members, or offer help to other members, would you then claim some priveledge to look at the books to see where the fees go? Would they tell you to hit the road if you asked?

The "for the fans, by the fans" is, unfortunately, being misinterpreted.
It's the opposite of "by the corporation, for our own glory". It's not "come in and stake a claim" or "mi casa es su casa".

I paid some money, and the board is still up. Aslong as its up and running well, money well spent imo. I dont think anyones payed for platinum for the use of an extra forum or any of the features entirely, its more out of respect for keeping this site up. Even the shitty threads. I dont think the thread removal was about censorship and hiding, more about cleanliness and proffesionalism. And I'm not afraid to spell that word wrong, because it'll be removed soon

My simple question was going to be: If I pay the 20 bucks, where does it go? My interest was sparked when Joetam said he had no idea. I honestly don't know why that should be such an avoided subject, or why "whoever" is trying so hard to not disclose it.

The first few memberships probably paid the cost of running this site. How about the other 100-200? Money in someones pocket? Sure, of course...

C'mon man, that's not even the point. This forum has sponsors to pay costs (or does it?) I don't know. What's the 20 bucks for? I don't know. The problem here is nobody seems to know, or wants to tell, and I just don't get why. The whole deal just doesn't make any sense to me. I'm pretty sure that all these BS threads wouldn't exist if someone would just come out of the closet and explain it. Simple, no?

Well, I caved in and sent my $20. Why? Because I'm selling every fucking guitar I own accept one. I'd rather give good deals to people on this site than total strangers on eBay. Other than that, the money spent was a waste. Now I'm the proud owner of a cool "handle," I'm privy to a tits and ass forum, and an extension of the general bullshit forum (I wondered where fett had gone). On top of that, it's still slower than fuck because I'm on dialup! Enjoy the beer!

I don't know. Look at jemsite for an example. Set up a lot like this. But instead of 1 ad at the top like here, there are 15 small ones. Would that take away from the forum? Hardly. Plus we have a Dealer section that jemsite does not have. I assume the dealers have to pay to post ads in there? So I would have no problem with more ads on the site. If placed properly they would take up no more room then they are already...

EDIT: All of the "fettposts" are going in the new paying member area? A great reason NOT to pay...

Why on earth do you care how Jeremy spends the money so long as the site is running and providing a service you deem worth the amount of money you paid?

i think thats it in a nut shell. personaly, i paid without any great expectations, and viewed it as more of a donation for the time i have been here. my way of givin thanks i guess for all the interesting reading, guitar insight, and all around water cooler FYI stuff.

What happens with the money, or more of how it is used to improve my JCF experiance, i will make judgement next year when it is time to renew. if there is bonus features i enjoy, great. if not, great. i'll just become a regular member that i've been since the begining.

with this outlook i sleep well at night. I don't feel the need to know that will make my head spin.

with my new powers of suggesting a thread being removed as a paid member, is one area that i will not get my moneys worth. Only if a thread is a direct personal attack at a member that is meant to be hurtful. Example: dude! is that ugly chick your wife? other than that, i don't have much of an issue with any posting. in fact, i'd just assume see it. not for the drama, but to get an understanding just what that member is all about. just my personal way of who or how to responed to someone, if at all. trust me, i personaly have had many threads i started with zero responce, or the stick poking me.

with that said, i'm not a big fan of deleting threads. if a thread is of no value, it will just burn out and die then sink to the bottom of the page never to be seen again. especially by me who can't work the search function worth a shit.
if others are into it and i see no value, i just move on to another thread. just like watching TV, don't like it, change the channel.
