Re: neck thru vs set neck vs bolt on guitars

I prefer bolt-ons for their sound and cheapness. Cosmetically, I prefer the neck-thrus, but I can't afford em.

Re: neck thru vs set neck vs bolt on guitars

Bolt-on does not equal cheap. That is one of the most ignorant statements that I have ever heard. There are cheap bolt ons and cheap neckthrus (musicyo anyone?) The quality of the guitar has nothing to do with how the neck is joined to the body

Guitars with bolt-on neck joints are often sold at cheaper prices than neck-thrus. Should they be? No. But I can't control people.

Actually, neck-thrus take more labor to build than bolt-ons or set-necks, so yeah they should generally be a bit more expensive. Go to Jackson, Conklin, Carvin, or any other custom shop and you will get charged more for a neck-thru guitar than a bolt-on. Luthier's need to make money for what they do, so if it takes more work for them to make a certain type of guitar, you bet they'll charge you.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Not all of the time. You are generalizing. Some companies that build bolt ons put a lot more effort into them then others. Tom Anderson, Suhr, Melancon,....these guitars are well worth the price...just as a neckthru is. I would rather have a new Anderson Cobra S then pretty much any guitar that you could throw at me. New it is probably around $2500 and worth every penny. Don't let your opinion get in the way of fact. It might be true that a neckthru might involve more work, but that depends on the company that makes it. I am pretty sure that Cobra S involved a lot more work than a JP PLayer, Music yo or other such neck thru. It isn't the joint, it is the combination of parts and attention to detail that make a guitar. \Jackson has a high attention to detail on all of their USA guitars. When you compare one of those bolt on to neckthrus, then your comparison MIGHT be valid. Your initial statement was that bolt ons are cheaper. That is simply a generalized and incorrect statement. That is what I am responding to.

I'm just talking about neck-to-body construction. Of course a musicyo neck-thru guitar shouldn't be more expensive than a custom Tom Anderson bolt-on.

That is exactly what your statement implied.

i too prefer a bolt on guitar for the sound.

i compared a prs ce-24 which is a bolt on to a prs custom 24 which is a set neck and actually preferred the cheaper ce 24's sound which cut thru better in the mix imo.

Dude, lighten up. Bolt-ons are GENERALLY less expensive than a similar neckthrough model by the same or a competing company (i.e. Dinky/Soloist, ESP, etc) - that's what I got out of his post.
There's no need to "correct" him.
Yes the Andersons and other boutique guitars are far more expensive, but they are boutique instruments.

Since you mention the MusicYo Kramers, note that the Yo Focus is $79 while the Yo Barettas start at $199. Comparing apples to apples you can see that the neckthrough is more expensive within the millieu of the same manufacturer, which was Ninja's point. A neckthrough Anderson, if made, would probably cost more to make than a bolt-neck Anderson,
all other aspects of the two guitars being equal.

a good adjusted bolt-on can be very low-action and responsive in general...
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">actually i wanted to ask this question for a long time but didnt want to start a new thread...

which usa jackson guitars has low actions...and....is RR1 considered to be a good lowaction compared to others? (i havent played others)

He says he feels it's an advantage to have his stronger hand on the fretboard. I guess if you've played for many years it'd be tough to switch.
My sister's friend married a guy who was ambidextous. He could play left or right hand, on a right hand guitar! He'd flip the same guitar back and forth and play just as well each way.

Anyway, make a favorite search at Ebay and you'll get an email when that lefty
comes it. I'd just say lefty Charvel, lefty Jackson or similar.
