  • Opinions wanted on body materials.

I started building a new guitar around a Jackson neck I got off E-Bay. It's a 22 fret, 25.5 inch scale. The body I'm working on is sort of a cross between a Mockingbird and a Warlock. I know it sounds odd, but wait till you see it. It's balanced perfectly and is even easy to play while sitting. Anyway, my point is, the original body I built is solid maple, and obviously it's heavy and very bright. I'm seriously considering scrapping it and starting a new body with a maple centre section, mahogany wings, and possibly a figured maple cap. It should give me a thicker, heavier sound (which is really what I'm looking for)

    Opinions please.

Mahogany is very well suited to a deep sound. I'd ditch the maple center section and make it all mahogany, particularly if you go with a figured maple cap. Just my opinon, though. It's all subjective. Good luck.

I was thinking of the maple centre section just to stabilize the neck a little since mahogany seems to have a little more flex than maple.

I'd second the mahogony wings idea...that'll have a killer sound to it.
