With a quilt that dark, maybe Mike could use lighter colors in a graphic and let the existing quilt resemble billowing smoke or something on those lines. Personally, I'd leave the guitar as it is.

Looking at the picture spike posted, I'd go with that idea. A see thru graphic on a quilt top.... AWESOME!

            +1. I wouldn't change it.

Would I do it? No, I'd leave it like it is.

But it's yours, you can gouge at it with a flathead screwdriver if you want.

Maybe instead of getting a graphic, since youre not happy with the grain visibility, why not have dave mansel over at mcnaught refinish it? Im sure he could do a gorgeous job bringing out the grain....if not, id definately consider him for graphics.

I'd just sell it and buy a PC1 with a different finish.

I wouldn't put a graphic over a nice quilt, why not a chlorine refin if that's what you like?

I like it as-is. BTW, how much would it cost to have Mike do this? You might as well buy one of the PC-1s on ebay that already have his graphics?

Could it be that toner instead of stain was used? Toner is like using a colored gel over a light. It masks whatever it goes over wheareas stain wil penetrate. Maybe get it stained black, lightly sanded then a light coat of black toner applied?

Man....I hate to turn away work, but that is one of my favorite finishes. HEHEHEHE. I am sure you will find a demand for that body. I have a hard time justifying destroying mother natures beauty, even if I am getting paid.
