Hey, just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to the forums, but a regular on Guitar World forums. I'm axe2grind there.

Anyway, I own a few guitars including a Jackson DKMG. I am currently shopping for a Charvel or Made in Japan Soloist. I can't afford a San Dimas or a USA Soloist at the moment.

I am hoping you guys can give me some advice on what I should look for. I am leaning right now to a Model 4 or Model 6 or as I mentioned a Made in Japan Jackson Soloist.

I am open to any other ideas. I'm really just wanting a great player in decent to good shape for a reasonable amount. Hopefully $400 - $700. I currently have an EC-1000 up for sale or trade on Craigslist so depanding on when I sell and what I sell it for that will really influence my top dollar amount to spend on this guitar.

mij soloist...because the hardware is fairly new and while mod4 and 6 are good the singlecoils are hopelessly week and woolly the switching between pickups is very tricky and impossible mid solo and with their age you'll probably end up replacing at least the nut clamp anyway through wear...maybe try get a model 3 or a later charvel like a 475 as they'll at least have more practical switching

Welcome to JCF. I bought a Charvel Model 6 new back in the late 80's. Its an awesome guitar and if you are considering a Japanese made axe, I'd recommend the Model 6. I still have mine to this day. I was never a big fan of the stock Jackson pickups and replaced mine with EMG 81/SA/SA. Otherwise its stock. Quality is very high on the Charvel Model 6.
