Stryper were good musicians, even though the lyrics didn't appeal to everyone.

By the same token, Slayer's lyrics don't appeal to everyone, nor do those of Judas Priest, Ozzy, Sabbath, Dio, Maiden, Poison, Alice Cooper, Hendrix, SRV, Celine Dion, or Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Not that I want to aid in the highjacking of this thread by turning it into a Stryper debate, but I'd take Michael Sweet's "girly" voice and Oz's (and Sweet's) melodic lead playing over 99% of the cookie monster fronted slop or whining out there today. Do I buy into the who Jesus thing? No. Personally I'm an Atheist, but it doesn't mean that I wasn't/am unable to look past the message and appreciate their music and abilities. These guys were old school Jackson users and helped get the brand exposure. But alas, this thread isn't about Stryper, it's about artist attachment and lack of signature models, right?

Don't really care much about the religious music but Stryper was a damn good sounding band. Those "girly" vocals sound great and you'd have a hell of a time finding a singer that can hit those notes if you were doing Stryper cover songs. Loved their guitars (Jacksons) and guitar playing. As far as artists being attached to Jackson models today, unless its someone old school I'd rather not see them attached to anyone. Not too many new players deserve to have their own signature Jackson when I think of the caliber players that were once attached to the brand.

What's wrong with Wolbers, Morton, and Demmel? As I understand it, they're playing the same types of solos that defined Jackson players in the 80s - lots of technicality and heavy riffing, right?

Just because everyone and their mother can shred these days doesn't mean these guys shouldn't have a Jackson sig.

I agree. But does Christian Olde Wolbers play solos? I can't recall ever hearing a solo in a Fear Factory song.

+1. I was never really into the whole religious angle either, but they had great songs and played their instruments and sang well.

Was he with them when they were doing the Destruction Derby soundtracks for the PlayStation? I vaguely remember solos in those, but mostly it was the crushing rhythms.

Hmmm. Not sure when the Playstation thing came out, but Wolbers was their bass player originally. Dino Cazares was their guitar player for years, they kicked him out, then Wolbers took over guitar duties and they wound up with another bass player. Neither of them played solos, but maybe they dabbled in them once in awhile.

I don't know, those newer bands just don't do much for me. Like Toejam I really don't care much about Stryper's religious angle but they sounded great! I'd still listen to their old stuff today.

I would like to know what ever happened to the Stryper guitars. If ever there was a one of a kind it was their guitars. I would like to have one made just like Michael's V.

apart from the paint, what makes the Stryper guitars "a one of a kind"?
