I am thinking either a R9 59 Les Paul reissue or a R0 60 Les Paul Reissue or maybe a SG in Silver burst or Korina even...

I didn't think Gibson did true custom pieces anymore unless you commit to 25 units minimum.
            Did that change for 08?

Yes they did. IIRC, they stopped doing 3 piece neck-throughs (i.e., no scarf joint) as standard practice around 1984-ish. 5 piece necks even earlier than that. I believe this happened right around the same time Charvel pointyhead neck production (which also had scarf joints) really ramped up to full speed. Still well back into the San Dimas timeframe.

As to ESPs not having scarf joints, isn't that design difference really just dictated by the headstock angle? I'm no ESP expert by any means, but, my understanding is that ESP necks don't use scarf joints because their standard headstock is not angled back to the same degree that a Jackson's is. So there's no need for an ESP neck to have a scarf joint (which adds strength to the highly-stressed area where the neck meets the head). That's not to say that one construction design is superior to another - it's more of just an apples and oranges thing. i.e., Would you prefer the greater string angle over the nut from a Jackson headstock, or no scarf joint from an ESP? There's pluses and minuses to both approaches.

You are correct. The scarf joint is there to provide strength to high tension area's that tend to be magnified by a tilt back head stock. The idea is to give a grain reversal. Well the original idea of a scarf joint is for that purpose.... unclear what folks think today.

It is curious to note that there are a few scarf locations. The Ontario guitar have one that is higher up the register than a San Dimas guitar. I used to have tons' of pics and a log of locations on known guitars. I have seen the joint move locations as well. They must have been trying to use up materials and so forth to get some necks built. Waste not want not.

It's too bad about what happened. It's kinda weird though. I remembered Matt taking orders for the Charvel Production guitars a while back but on Friday when I was looking at the list of dealers to see if there were any Canadian dealers I noticed he wasn't there and it confused me quite a bit because of seeing him taking orders and I thought something must be up. Then flash ahead to Sunday, I get home from the lake, see "Important Announcement" and that Matt created it I knew what was up before I even clicked on the thread.

It's too bad seeing as you're such a reputable dealer and all that. Good luck with your new brands.

I'm very sorry to hear this Matt... I bought my WR-1 from you and you were my go to guy if I ever was going to order a custom shop.

On a side note, does anyone want to start a thread of the Jacksons we've bought from Matt?

This is a damn shame! My one dealing with Matt turned out to have big problems with the shipper. (UPS lost it) Matt stayed on top of it & handled about as well as it could have been handled by anyone & stuck with it til the end even while tied up at the NAMM show. Based on my experience Matt's was going to be my dealer of choice for two Jackson custom shop orders I'm working on. Fortunately Matt's has plenty of other stuff I'm into though.

IMO FMIC just axed what has to be one of their top dealers... I dont mean top as in moving lots of boxes though I'm sure He does, I mean a dealer who handles their business well even after He has the customers money, which I dont find too often these days.

I now break wind in Fenders general direction.

I'm still on the hunt for that SOB!! There's still an empty spot on my wall between RR0755 & RR0832 in it's honor.

It would be pretty cool if after all that happened I was able to get back at auction... I know its not likely but I can try You can bet if it ever shows up publically whoever has it will be visited.
