Hmm, I thought more companies were already supplying that market?
But then, how long is this market expected to last? Is the potential ROI great enough to warrant the attempt?
Jackson already bowed out of the 7-string race, leaving only the C.O.W.
Perhaps they realize that the only way to compete price-wise in those arenas is to put out a sub-standard product?I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

There are a bunch of other 7-strings but no other 8-strings. The other 7's are all Korean or worse though so I don't really count them.
I figure if people are willing to pay $1500 for the Ibanez RG2228 which is a black, fixed bridge, bolt-on, basswood bodied MIJ guitar then they would pay $1500 for a Japanese Soloist 8-string with better woods.
I could be wrong though, I don't pretend to know much about what sells or what people in general want to buy.

Do they SELL for $1500, or is that the MSRP?
That's a very high price for that configuration, though if the 8th string is a G or lower, then it'll sound like mud on a neckthrough.
As well, are these 8-string players using more than the low 4? Are they using all 8 strings?I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

1499 is the price they're sold for - how many actually sell is anyone's guess but greater than zero. Retail is 1999
I don't think it would necessarily result in mud. Even the LTD FM-408 has been reviewed favorably at sevenstring.org and it's a 25.5" scale maple neck-through basswood body. Those just came out and sell for $999, retail 1427.
The people I've seen using them were mainly playing boring stuff on the bottom 3 strings, but there are plenty of kids who are into it for whatever reason. I personally am thinking about getting the LTD model and stringing it B-E-A-D-G-B-E-A.

I for one would absolutely love the see the SweeTone series brought back, and I think if they were to market it correctly it could actually be pretty successful.

I think Jackson/Charvel is perfectly fine the way they are, who needs 7,8 string, and chambered guitars anyway. leave that to ibanez, esp, gibson and prs that is where their strength lies. let Jackson make the hotrod kickass metal guitars, i would like to see a reverse soloist w/ an oiled neck, will that happen most likely not. no demand or very little. atleast i get a good choice of finishes and although higher today still a good price compared to the one finish you get on all prs, gibson, fender, ibanez's and esp's for about 1000 dollar or more upcharge. try finding any one of them whose standard models run in 20+ finish options, any model, plus quality is generally great and IMO they sound better. And when is the last time anyone saw Steve Vai use a guitar with more than 6 strings Ok im done raving now

I like the Mahogany though..Transitioning from Retired Musician from cover bands to a Full time vocalist/frontman/guitarist in an original and covers band....it's been a while and this should get NASTY!
