  • Big gauge for soloist = Safe?

    Hi,

I recently try a custom set of string of Ernie Ball. It was 10-13-17-30-42-54.
I really like the sound of these string on my SL2HT but I was wondering if that set has not too much tension for the neck. I play in standard tuning.

I'm able to setup properly my guitar, but that much tension is maybe too much for a jackson soloist neck. What you think?

nah, people use a lot heavier sets in standard tuning and have no problems with it

You'll probably just have to tighten your truss rod a little, if you haven't already.

No problem although you have to adjust the tremolo springs and/or tremolo claw, I think.

The neck through construction is very robust...although the neck of my soloist is quite thin, the maple is very hard. But I tried later soloists and the neck is much thicker.
