  • Thoughts on selling..

Alright JCF, I come to you, with a slight problem. So, I have 2 Jacksons (Best fucking guitars ever.) 1 of them is a USA 1989/1990 Soloist, which was my first soloist, and the guitar that "made me want to play guitar", my other, is a Jackson Professional Soloist, which is the guitar I constantly play now.

I've been having thoughts of selling the USA for quite some time now, mainly because I play my pro pretty much 24/7, but the USA is a badass fucking guitar!

Here lies the problem, the USA plays better than any other USA I have ever played, and it has a badass finish.. The problem is, I don't really like it as much as my professional, and I don't play it nearly as much! So I have been having thoughts about selling it, mainly because:

    A) If I were to ever gig, I wouldn't want to bring a $1500+ guitar with me, and risk losing that.. Even though I like my pro better than my USA, I would be more pissed if someone stole my more expensive guitar.... (Am I crazy for this?)

    B) I need some gear, and I'm guilty of buying/selling my stuff to get more stuff.. Had a 5150, sold it to get a carvin, sold the carvin to pay off a traffic ticket, etc.. I'm in desperate need of an amp and cab..

    C) I think it's worthless to have a guitar that I don't really play (because I like my pro better), but I also like having the guitar because it's really nice!

    Some pics of it.

    (On the right.)

    The cat with the guitar..

So JCF...what's your input on this? Should I sell? Keep? Will I regret if I sell? Anyone ever had a similar experience?

Although you have some apparently good reasons , there is no way I would sell that, especially as it is in snakeskin!!

To be honest I have regreted every single guitar I have let go over the years and now as a rule I keep a hold of everything.

Keep the guitar and save up for an amp instead. One of these days you'll "rediscover" your USA Soloist. You'll be kicking yourself for YEARS if you let that go.

Honestly, I think you kinda need to change your perception on taking the USA out gigging. I mean, why did you buy it in the first place, to play it, right? What good does that $1500+ serve you if you don't use it? And you say you like the Pro better, wouldn't it piss you off more if you lost that one because it's your main player? You're always taking chances taking your guitars out of the house. But if you're keeping your eyes out for 'em it's not that big of a gamble. And I mean no offense by this, but if you were to try and sell that guitar now, could you get $1500 for it?

So, I gotta know, the guitar in the middle (a Carvin?), can you get weather and TV bands with that?

Don't sell it. You will regret it. With the US economy the way it is right now, this is a bad time to be a seller anyway. Keep it.

              +1

I regret selling a 1972 LP Custom. I couldn't stand the low frets (t was a fretless wonder).

I recently played another 1972 LP Custom. Sounded great, still couldn't stand the low frets, and still regret selling mine.

Get rid of the Carvin. I personally would never sell a guitar that I thought was the best one I ever played. You'ld probably never replace it and regret selling it. I've regetted selling many guitars and wish to this day I hadn't sold them. Learn from others mistake and don't do it.

i gig with my USA jackson's exclusively - this includes custom shop guitars (i only have 1 and it is a charvel). i have NEVER had to worry about them walking away and nothing has ever happened to them. i bought them TO gig with. i agree with tekky...
                    GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

                    and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

in this market right now being a seller sucks.. but being a buyer kicks ass I'm not sure what your looking for in gear or amps but I've found that the guitar centers website http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/index.cfm

alot of times I've found some good deals on gear and most of the time they'll work on the price and shipping with you.

Oh yeah and I would never sell that snakeskin soloist!!!! keep that guitar!!

                          That is so true!

I'm glad to see that falling in and out of love with guitars happens to others as well. The same thing happened to me with my SL2H but I "rediscovered" it by accident. It is by far the most beautiful, ass kicking and perfect guitar I could ever ask for. I have sold guitars but gave myself time to make a very conscious decision.

dont sell it bro. if there was a better guitar to sell it for then i might say yeah you should do it, but for an amp. no. like others suggested sell the carvin.

I'd keep it for the fact that it's one, badass and two, you don't come across guitars that made you want to PLAY guitar. It's an antique for you in ways to remember what you got into what you enjoy doing. Save up for gear and sell the Carvin man.
