  • Tough Choice

My buddy is facing a tough choice and I told him I'd turn to the wise members of the forum for advice. He has decided to sell one of his US Jacksons to pay bills associated with his divorce. He has narrowed his choice to either a 2001 Y2KV in black pearl or a 2004 SL1 in American flag graphic. I told him to keep the one that feels the best and will be played the most, but he's unsure. I also told him to consider the collectibility factor. What do you all think? If it were you, which would you keep, and which could you live without? Before somebody suggests it, I already told him to keep both to prevent the inevitable regret that will surely follow, but you know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

why dont you buy one off him, then he could buy it back off you for the same price when hes in a better financial situation? that way he hasnt lost it forever and you get a kickass guitar
Say, I smell bacon.Does anyone else smell bacon?

You know, I actually thought of that, but I'm still faced with the question of which one? I could probably get the SL1 a little cheaper.

I'm with Super-shredder and his Kraft Cheese awesomeness on this one. If I had funds I would definitely do that for a friend in need. From a financial standpoint, I would keep the Y2KV because they're harder to find and probably will go up in price a bit, especially since Megadeth seems to be getting popular right now.

Heck if I had a choice of which one to hold on to I would pick the SL1, but that's because I find them comfier most of the time.

Collectibility vs. comfort. The other issue would be the price. I think it would cost me about $500 more for the Y2KV. Then again, the SL1 is a fine guitar too. They're both mint, so if I did pick one up, I really wouldn't lose. I think it's a good idea.

To make the decision even harder, or easier depending on how you look at it, I sold him the SL1 awhile back, so if I bought it, I'd actually be buying it back. He had bought it because he wanted a soloist with a graphic finish, and I had a lot of guitars at that time. I posted a pic of it somewhere on the forum not long after I became a member.

Buy back the SL1 if you liked it the first time around.
