  • Jackson Concept JDR 94

I just snagged one of these on UK eBay. I cant believe Jackson guitars go so cheap on here, when stuff like Epiphone goes for so much. What's that all about?

Anyway, I've searched all the topics about these guitars, so I know they became the Performers (PS4 in this case). I just wonder what upgrades people have made to them?

I'm thinking about going with an Invader in the bridge. I had an Invader set before and only liked it for rythm so I'm thinking go Invader for bridge, only use it for rythm, and get something better for leadwork in the neck position.
There's the middle single coil to be thought about too....

    Any ideas people?

Oh BTW, the trem in this is black. Could I swap it into my RR3? Or is it a totally different size?

all i know is that i loved that guitar and i regret ever getting rid of mine. it was my main guitar when i joined as you can tell by my name. the ps-4 is just a hair bigger than the jdr 94. i would choose the concept over the ps4 any day of the year!!! great score. as for pickups, i cant say what will be to your liking, but i hated the invader.

+1 I sold my JDR94 in 99 and I'm still kicking myself in the ass. I got a PS4 later and didn't like it as much.. Still a nice guitar, it just didn't have the personality.

yeah i know right. the ps-4 just doesnt cut it once you've held a jdr. it doesnt feel right and its alot heavier for some reason(in weight not sound).

edit- oh and not to get off the subject i like the dimarzio x2n but again what style are you playing?

I have a PS4. I love it, but I've never had a JDR94. That said, I upgraded the trem with a Schaller (big improvement), and replaced the tuners with Schallers.

For pups, I have a DiMarzio Evo bridge, Seymour Lil 59 middle (although I may swap this out for a Fast Track 2), and Humbucker from Hell in the neck. Tonewise, this is probably my most versatile guitar.

          Congrats on the score!
          The Guitars:
Jackson USA SL2H, Jackson Performer PS-4, Gibson Les Paul Studio Gothic, Ibanez JS-1000, B.C. Rich Mockingbird ST, Martin GPCPA5 Acoustic, 14 Warmoth customs, Ibanez Artcore AS73, Ibanez Prestige SR1000EFM Bass
          The Amps:

I had a jpr and loved it. It even had a warped neck and it still played great. sold it in 98 to help with buying a house. I sold my car too. grrr!

              Big PS-4 fan here.
Ugrade the pickups/pots and trem, and you have a top-notch guitar, IMO.
"Wow,... that was some of the hardest rockin ever. Hardest to listen too."

Agreed, but the weight was never really an issue with me as my main guitar is a Charvel San Dimas 3, that's quite a chunk of wood. Maybe it was the slightly larger size but after the JDR, the PS4 just never felt quite right.

BTW:Here's a pic of my old JDR94, Really bad pic, sorry, but if anyone could tell me where I could get another sticker like the one on the tail, I would appreciate it..

Have you tried pep-boys or aid auto for the sticker?

I have three (3) JDX-94s, which are another Concept model. If the body on the JDR is basswood like the JDR, it would be worth trying out an Invader in the bridge. I've tried many different pickups in mine, and the Invader really sounds good.

SO, anyone tell me how come these things go so incredibly cheap, even in rip-off Britain?
£103 for a '94 Jackson Concept in good condition? You'd be paying nearly double that for a used Squier or Epiphone. Now I love my Epiphones, but judging on the feedback on these Concepts, they are great guitars.
                        Why so damn cheap?!

It's still not arrived BTW so no opinion of my own yet.

Great buy, MartinBarre1! I reckon cos they are pointy and black and non "classic rock" looking, no one wants them anymore?? Even if Guitar Hero is supposed to be converting kids into rock loving shred heads in droves...(if you believe the stories/hype).

I have a PS4 too...love the offset dots and the beautiful action...just abotu the silkiest feel on any of the guitars I own. Did not like the trem AT ALL, so I replaced with a JT580 from a seller on USA ebay.

The seller was Margarets Guitar Factory, and she had another JT580 up for sale the other day, may still be there.

I nearly snagged it to start a Shadow superstrat project off the ground. I got the Shadow for £26.00 shipping included. Insane. The neck is very Ibanez, used to eba fairly nice axe, active pickups etc etc. I'll hopfully get it back off the ground and ripping up some of "de rock musicks, ya?" in no time.
