  • FYI Mike Shannon worked for Ed Roman for a while.

Just a FYI since alot of people were asking and I think its Jackson guitar related that Mike Shannon worked for Ed Roman for a while. There were rumors that he was making furniture so I just thought I would point this out because there were people who did not know where he went after his stint with Jackson in the late 90's

    He talks about it here.

This in no way is meant to portray Mike Shannon in a negative light at all. I think it does not matter who he worked for he can build my guitars any day of the week.

Man AK that would a dream come true! Though I can't imagine what that would cost.

Anyone know what the base cost of a custom soloist is? I'm sure there are a few dozen folks on here that have them-

Is anyone here in touch with Mike Shannon?

I am asking because I am wondering if he does contract work on the side. I know Mike Learn and Dan Lawrence will paint you a guitar if you go direct to them. I figure Shannon may build you something if you have a way to get in touch. Anyone know?

I don't think that would work for Mike. He is a direct employee for FMIC and probably has a non compete clause. Even if he did, I don't think he would advertise it. Dan and I are subcontractors, even still, there are some lines we will not cross in respect to FMIC.

I can kinda see where this is headed - E.R. has been caught making fakes (notably BC Rich) out of his own shop, and the implied speculation is that Mike may have built some of those fakes after the time he originally worked for Jackson.

As an employee, you are hired to do a job. While your conscience may tell you that you're basically breaking the law - and any employee has the right to "blow the whistle" on such activities - if the employee has no proof of such wrongdoing - or no direct knowledge of it - then it's "no harm no foul".

Now, if E.R. indeed had fakes made in his shop, it's possible he faked the work orders as well as the subcontracts with those companies.

Let's not forget, GMW was an authorized Jackson Custom Shop, which means that your Custom Shop Jackson may have been built by Lee Garver rather than Mike Shannon.
It's not that much of a stretch to believe that Ed Roman - who, IIRC, owned BC Rich during the Class Axe years - could have been an authorized BC Rich Custom Shop at some point, but then lost the contract later and yet did not announce it to his employees and simply continued to take Custom Shop orders from customers directly. None of the money would have gone to BC Rich in that event, and since he would not have been an authorized C.S. "overflow" builder anymore, putting BC Rich logos and using the exact designs would have been a direct violation of copyright laws.

Of course, it also depends on Vegas law. As I recall, vegas was founded by those who wanted to live outside the established laws, so I'm sure they've got their own sovereign laws on certain things.

There's talk of Ed R getting caught making fakes, but he has a link on his website called "Fabulous Fakes" where they will make any guitar you want.

Not like he was hiding it if this is in the same context of what he recently got caught doing. Or am I missing something?

NEWC Ed was never a BCRich authorized CS nor did he EVER own BCRich. those are BCR myths. Randy Waltuch (SP) & another guy owned class axe. Ed did buy some of the class axe left overs since Bernie didnt want them back. Ed was in possession of far more blanks than Class axe ever made.

Didn't Ed have something to do with Class Axe? I thought Ken (WarriorX7) said he used to work there and Ed was in charge.

I wonder how it is that Bernie allowed that to happen.

I just want to point out the intention of this thread was not to accuse Mike Shannon of any wrong doing or anything like that during his employment with Ed Roman.

I am very intrested in where he worked and what other guitars he may have made besides the Jackson stuff and would love to get a private commision made.
