  • Asian OFR trem better than which Jackson trem?

Just wondering if this would be an upgrade from a JT-580 off of a DK2M trem or is the Takeuchi Japanese trem better made and better quality than the asian made Original Floyd Rose?

If not better than the current JT-580, I am guessing it is at least better than the JT-500 trem. What other trems would it be an improvement over?

The Korean OFRs are definitely better quality than the Takeuchi licensed Floyds on many import Jacksons.

How is it compared to the JT590?

The article I read about Suhr or Tom Anderson switching to the Japanese Gotohs instead of OFRs was because of the subpar machining and inferior metal used for the parts of the Chinese made OFRs.

jt-590's are floyd rose ii's manufactured by schaller. i would put money down that 590's are better than asian OFRs.

Even the later German Floyds were inferior compared to the way they used to be.

Ayerton on the Seymour Duncan forum and I think he is a member here also was trying to tell me the OEM OFR (Asian OFRs) were superior to the Takeuchi Jackson trems or even the Gotohs. He went so far to say the only difference was the machining and the country of origin. I posted the SUhr rant about the crappy quality of the chinese OFRs and the original poster selling the trem closed the thread before he read my response.

Wow, so then which Floyd would be considered the Cream of the Crop?

+1 I have 2 old ones and have had several recent ones. Later OFRs are not the same in quality. From poor fitting screw heads (as in easily stripped out) to malformed saddle grooves, and even had one where the slots where the locking screws go through (out the back) where way too big. It wouldn't stay it tune cos of all the slop.

I buy nothing but the old ones nowadays

The proper Original Floyd Rose, no question. The big difference is in the quality of metal used for the base plate - you'll notice that most of the Licensed items (and the FR II) have little inserts for the bridge posts, as the crappy metal basepplate would blunt in seconds if they were constructed like an OFR. This softer metal also makes for a real problem with stripping the intonation screw holes. The Jackson JT6 gets round that by using nuts underneath in a slot, rather than threaded holes, however the little nuts are similarly c**p. I got through two JT6's by sharpening the knife edge inserts with a Dremel (you can do that on an FRII also) but eventually there's not enough metal left.
