  • which guitar for megadeth sound?

hey guys, im wondering which guitar would play megadeth leads much better?
both soundwise and neckwise (i dont know which has a thinner neck).

Jackson PS3T Rhoads Performer with JB and Jazz pickups.

    or

Jackson DK2M also with JB and Jazz pickups.

With a digitech GNX-1 and a Charvel Model 3 through my Marshall, I get a pretty good Megadeth sound if I fiddle with the bass and treble a bit. Without the GNX-1 I'd struggle though, the Humbucker ain't that great lol
Gear: Charvel Model 3, Marshall Reverb 30, Fender Squier Telecaster, Digitech GNX-1, GHS Boomers and a whole lot of Dunlop picks.... Oh, and a Hohner Harmonica - key of A

I don't think it's going to matter much, it'll depend on how you play it. Marty and Dave both used JBs on the classic stuff, so you're there with the pickups.
      Choose whichever guitar you prefer.
I'm gonna guess the DK2M is the better quality guitar though, so it'll likely cost more.

Well, if you're after the look, then go for the Rhoads. It's not as high quality as the Dinky, but it has the pointy shape. Although I don't know if Dave ever played a Rhoads...I've always seen him with a King V.

He did play one in the studio footage of the In My Darkest Hour video... a Student model, blue with pink bevels.

The tone is in the amp and whatever effects he was using the guitar not so much.I can get the tone pretty close with a Johnson J-station and a cheap cheezy 70's Les Paul copy ie. the one in my avatar.

Considering how different Dave and Marty sound, I'd say that among the two choices, it probably does not matter much. I suspect that even if they played exactly the same gear, they would sound very different.

I think the newer ones have the genuine JB/Jazz set, but the older ones have "Duncan Designed" pickups which are nowhere near as good. Check what it says on the front of the pickup. If it says "Seymour Duncan" you're good.
I don't know why they put a Jazz in metal guitars anyway, the 59 is much better.

Get a KV1/KV2. Could prove expensive, tho I'm sure one of the dealers here will give you a cool deal.

The DK2M has always had Duncans, not Designed.
