At the risk of adding to the inanity...
I've had a model 6 from new back in 87, and recently got my first USA soloist. I immediately noticed quite a big difference in feel between the two, so when I read this thread I went back and measured the necks. Turns out they're both the same width at nut and at the 24th fret. However, the string spacing at the bridge for the model 6 is 51mm (measured from E to E), while on the soloist it's 57mm. At the 24th fret, it's 48 vs 50. I guess this is down to the Jackson licenced trem vs the original Floyd Rose. For me, this makes for a big difference - I could have sworn the soloist neck was wider. Also, I could be wrong, but I think the model 6 doesn't have the compound radius neck - this probably accounts for some of the difference also.
The soloist weighs qutie a bit more - mahogany vs poplar - and doesn't have the scalloped heel (is that the right word? The bit where the right elbow rests) that the model 6 does. The stock pickups on the model 6 sound quite different to those on the soloist (Humbuckers From Hell in my case). I'd say the soloist's sounds fuller, and the bridge pickup is even more raunchy. I did a blind test with my wife (who has good taste in electric guitar sounds), and she preferred the sound of the soloist both clean and distorted. That said, I love the Charvel, and certainly have no complaints - it plays and sounds awesome. My other signature says something funny
