Construction wise, it's basically an RR5FR.
The auction says it has 24 frets, but it only has 22.
The board on the RR-J2 is supposed to be Ebony.
I think the inlays are MOP as well. Doesn't say in the listing, but they look like it in the pics.

Ah yes i can see the RR5 shape now.

Who makes these guitars? Jackson or Edwards?

And can you still buy them new?

      Cheers

It's got nothing to do with ESP/Edwards. He obviously put the wrong description in. It's a Jackson Stars, which is made for the Japanese market in Jackson's Japanese factory. Search the forum for Jackson Stars that other people here own. Here's their website. http://jacksonstars.fender.jp/

Jackson Stars makes those (= Jackson Japan).

It's a CUSTOM SHOP model, highest quality, on par with USA.

I know, I used to have a Custom Shop Jackson Stars RR (ordered it myself, with some different specs though).

Price is VERY cheap...I paid twice that for mine!

Not since the Fender buyout. A lot of things changed. The RRs over there all had 24 frets, not 22, AND had both humbuckers.

As for the guitar in the listing, he lists a lot of Japanese-market stuff, so the "Edwards" thing was probably left over from a template he was using for one of his Edwards listings.

Also, that's not an LTD, it's a shortwing (top wing is shorter than the RR1 wing), so it's kinda close. From what I can tell it's not so much a "Custom Shop" as a "limited run".

They did have JacksonStars LTDs, but as I understand it, they were made in the USA Shop. There are quite a few USA-made JacksonStars Custom Shop models.

It's not a custom shop Jackson Stars, it has MOTO, not MoP, inlays and the fretboard is stripped ebony instead of plain ebony. It's a limited edition TN-02 from the first batch of Japanese made limited run guitars, which came out last year:

                It's basically a 22 fret TN-02 with a different paint job.

I stand corrected. The logo is a different colour too.

Even though the hang tag says Custom and it was built in '07, I'd still bet it is an upgraded J2 and has MOTO inlays. If it was based on a J1, it would have come with a hard-case.

                          That's not a J2, that's a custom shop Jackson Stars.. 1K, that's a steal.

What exactly are you basing that deduction on? Here's the hang-tag for my KE7, which was ordered as a semi-custom KE7-J2B:

It would have had that hang-tag if it had MOTO inlays, a soft case and a plain-jane finish, if I had ordered something as simple as reversed MOTO inlays.

Before October 2007, when Jackson Stars still made semi-custom guitars, you chose a base model and pick what parts you wanted upgraded. You could pick either a J1 or a J2 as the base mode. For example, here's one page of the old two-page translated version of the option form that used to be hosted at autum-frost.com:

                            http://www.cnri.dit.ie/~duffy/JCF/JS-SCOS1.jpg

As the only 7-string models they had made were limited edition J2 models for Ikebe Gakki, my KE7 is based on the KE7-J2B, but it's hang tag only says custom. The base model was a J2, so if I hadn't paid for MoP inlays, it would have MOTO, if I hadn't paid for a MoP logo, it would have had a silkscreened logo, if I hadn't paid for a hard case, it would have had a soft case, if I hadn't paid for... you get the idea.

The guitar that is for sale comes with a soft-case and has a silkscreened logo, which suggests to me that the base model was J2.

actually, the more I look at it, it looks like it might have striped ebony as well.

Regardless, it's still a great deal.
