  • Jackson With or With Out Dave Mustaine

First of all, those who simply want to bash Mustaine or Megadeth just do the rest of a favor and skip this.

I've noticed over the years of reading the JCF that Dave Mustaine has this almost folk hero status for playing the KV1 and an almost villain status for leaving Jackson. There's always talk going around about him coming back into the fold again to Jackson.

hypothetically if Dave were to return to Jackson tomorrow, what do you think that would actually mean for the company?

Beyond the KV1 and Y2KV returning. I mean as the guy who in all probability become the Jackson poster child, do you think this would actually do anything for sales?

or has the "guitar whoring" he has done with ESP and Dean made him unsellable as the face of Jackson guitars?

Obviously there are those who'll buy his signature no matter what brand. But I'm not sure that the Megadeth community with bank accounts big enough to keep buying these high ticket items is large enough to make a big enough sales dent to show positive growth.

Personally I don't care if it's Dave Mustaine or the Nelson twins playing a jackson, so long as the brand is out there and keeps the business going. But I am curious how people view what Dave coming back to Jackson would mean.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

I think it would be cool it would be nice to have another legendary metal heads signature guitar next to Adrain and Rhoads but i don't know if it would do much for sales. On the other hand Dave might want to replace the kv2 with the kv1.

I'm a big fan of Megadeth's early catalog, and I was turned onto it when I was a kid largely because I thought the pointy V Jackson he was playing was the coolest guitar I had ever seen. But to be honest, I really couldn't care less if Mustaine comes back to Jackson or not.

I would question the return of the Y2KV as Gibson's layers have been more and more active over the last 10 years and would probably jump all over it.

I do think that it would be beneficial for Jackson overall. The name "Dave Mustaine" can sell various music related products for whatever company he is with. He has a very long history with Jackson which they could build on. Though, I think Jackson is still benefitting from Mustaine/Friedman even though they're no longer with the company. Plenty of Megadeth fans still buying Jacksons because of those two instead of ESP, Ibanez, or Dean.

Dave can do whatever he wants - Charvel/Jackson needs Mick or Jim from Slipknot, one of those dudes from Korn and one of the dudes from Avenged Sevenfold if they want to move some serious numbers.

I'm just happy I have a King V that was made before he came along and put girly frets and convoluted tuners on them.

Dave played the KV2 and the precursor to it, the PCS KV. Both had Floyds. I don't see why he would want to replace it, or that Jackson/FMIC would listen to that nonsense. Plus, the KV2 and KV1 were both out and sold together from the late 90's to early 2000's. I'd imagine if he came back and the KV1 came back that it would just be another guitar along side the existing ones. I think it's more likely that you'd have an all mahogany string-thru KV (not the KV2T) than a KV1 re-issue. If there is a KV1 re-issue, rest assured Fender will have it priced out of reach for most fans.

I had an order for a custom KV1 in around 2001 and Jackson had told me that they were discontinuing the KV1/KE1 because Kahler couldn't keep up supply of the bridge. My guitar was actually sitting there for 2 months finished waiting for a bridge. I finally sent them one off an old guitar. Anyway, Kahler went out of business for a while shortly thereafter. I'd imagine if the "KV1" was to return it would partially depend on Kahlers ability to supply the bridge.

They're not having trouble keeping ESP and BC Rich in trems.

Isn't DM like the worst signature artist ever? Didn't he trash talk the KV1 when he was at ESP, and trash talk ESP while he was at Dean? Totally unprofessional. How would you like to spend 6 months of your disposable income on your favorite guitarist's signature model, only to hear him say it's a "tone sucker" a few years later. What, are we supposed to line up for a second helping of this horse shit?

I'm guessing, but I would HOPE they bring out a KV with the same graphic he had on that double KV CS he played on "Trust" during the "That one night" show. It would be a single neck, not a double, but with the same graphic.

Production of the 2300 model has been full swing since 2006/2007. Not so sure about the non-trem 3300/3310.

I hope he brings over that ridiculous X shaped thing he said came to him in a dream.

Oh good point - forgot about the non-trem.

It's just got a different name now. I just bought one a few months ago.

                          7330 I think.

Actually getting it installed n my KV1 as we speak.

I don't think that Marty will ever come back, largley because I don't even think that he likes pointy guitars .

As for Dave, It looks to me like he just used what ever was available and the best at the time. It must be hard trying to keep your band stocked with gear all the time. Probably a big headache. Maybe the guitars that Dean makes for him are really nice?

It would not surprise me though if Dave returned to purchased Jackson some time in the future.

One thing for sure is that Dave has great taste in guitars, and I love his neck profiles and fret sizes (as I'm sure many of you do).

On a personal note, I would love it if I saw Dave with a Jackson again, and pray that he will come back so that I can get finally a Mah String through body KV2 (which is what I predict would happen).

He threw one of his ESPs across the stage while he was still with them. Something cut out and it wasn't working. I do seem to remember reading something about him trashing ESP after he left them.
