  • Just bought the guitar I've wanted since I was 13

Soon after seeing my first concert (Ratt opening for Billy Squier), I bought my first guitar, a Peavey Patriot. I've been playing on and off since then, but have never really owned a good guitar. I work on guitars for a living and watch my bosses get beautiful guitars given to them for free or for a handshake and a photo which is great but somewhat demoralizing to watch.

When I'm home in between tours, I play an import Jackson Dinky which I've done everything I could to make it sound good. Put on an OFR with a Big Block and tried different pickups and wiring configs, but I could never get it to sing. It just feels dead, minimal sustain and just not responsive.

I've had my eye on the DeMartini's since they released them, but couldn't justify spending that much for something without a neck pickup. So I looked at the Natural series at The Music Zoo: beautiful guitars at a reasonable price and decided on a Mahogany San Dimas H/S, but for various reasons couldn't get one.

I stopped by Matt's Music and checked out the DeMartini Bomber through a JVM combo and loved it: great neck, real responsive and just a beautiful guitar in pristine condition.

So I bought it and have been playing it non-stop for 48 hours through a Metropoulos '68 100W Super Lead replica I built recently. It's the sound dreams are made of. I've been spending a lot of time recently working on DeMartini solos and may have bordered on slightly obsessive but when I play those licks through this guitar/amp combination, it is perfect.

Sorry for the rant, I couldn't help myself. I know this thread is useless without pics, but there are pics of it here: http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85744

Speaking of pics, does anyone have any of Warren with the Bomber? I found one from a Japanese magazine cover, but I know he hardly used the Bomber and only recall a few pics from the 80's and can't seem to find them online.

Hey, you are not ranting, you carry on mate! It makes me smile when I read thread titles like this one because I know what a good feeling it is to finally land that thing you have desired for sooooo long.

    Enjoy playing it, congratulations!

Yeah, I hemmed and hawed for a long time, but finally just had to pull the trigger.
I've gotta say, the RTM pick-up is awesome and cleans up nice when you roll off the volume knob.
The Japanese Dinky is going to be very lonely. Got me where I wanted to go, but didn't sound very good in the process.

Congrats on the bomber! Those are great guitars. I've toyed around with the idea of picking up a Charvel version but I already have a GMW bomber that plays and sounds awesome. FYI, when you change your strings, pull the RTM out and see if it's signed by Warren and Seymour Duncan. I'm pretty sure all of them are. I haven't heard of one yet that wasn't.

And here's your pic of Warren with his bomber back in '84. I also saw Ratt open for Billy Squire. That was a great tour.

                  Thanks for the pic.

Living in MA, when I saw Ratt, Joe Perry came out and did Walkin' The Dog, further deflating Billy's ego after his Rock Me Tonight video fiasco.

I'll check the RTM when I change strings next.

Hey, is that a '84 Rhoads Student in the King's hands? Cool, I got one too.

Great post! Brings back a lot of good memories of working, saving, sacrificing and waiting for the day that I bought my dream guitar back when I was a kid. Congratulations and enjoy the bomber!

Great story with a good ending. I know the feeling. I've always dreamed of having Lynch's sub camo ever since I saw the Just Got Lucky video. Now that there ten of them floating around out there, maybe one day I'll snag one.

Bunch of different bands, but most recently Tenacious D, Queens of the Stone Age, and Death Cab for Cutie.

Finally figured out how to post a pic:
