At the moment, yes, unless you want to order a Custom Shop.

Look for used DX7 (India), or DR7/DR7T (with trem - nickel hardware, made in Japan) on ebay if you are ok with used...pretty cheap (under $200 on the DX7, under $300 for the DR7s)...
Crime doesn't pay. Neither does lutherie...

I wish I would have kept the DR7 I picked up new for $250 a few years back. Decided I didn't need a seven and returned it for a POS Epiphone Explorer that I ended up hating. I have a COW7 and it's great, but it also was a lot more than $250.

There are rumors floating around over at www.sevenstring.org that another Jackson seven is in the works. They are making a bit of a comeback, but knowing that Jackson has always been a little slow to address demand for certain things until the interest decreases, I'm not holding my breath.

People also play 8- and 9-string guitars these days. I had Ibanez and Schecter 7-strings a couple years ago. I eventually want to get a Carvin DC727.

What would be standard tuning for an 8 or a nine string?

                  8-string standard would be F# B E A D G B E (Meshugga may use this tuning or even a half-step flat).
Not sure about a 9-string, but maybe the same with a high A?

I visit ss.org too and have been praying for these rumours to be true for so damn long. First it was revealing at NAMM, then musikmesse, now sometime in summer... I'm getting very impatient Oh well I should be saving for the ENGL Invader I want anyways.

It would be great if Dave M come back to Jackson and bring with him Chris Broderick. A seven string arch top soloist Broderick signature would be so cool. I can't remember where I read than Mustaine talked about getting a deal for Chris with Dean or Jackson.
What do you mean, "I don't believe in God"? I talk to him every day.

Dave got him to go back to using 6-strings anyway, since Megadeth doesn't use 7s.

You're certainly right. And Chris is still in the 2009 Ibanez catalog anyway. But I would really like to see a 7 string soloist.
