  • DK/Charvel comparison

Hi there, wondered if any of you could help me out!
Has anyone got both an import DK2 series and a Style 1 Charvel.
How do they compare for playability and build quality? I'd expect the Charvel would be much better but don't know whether that's necessarily true.

I currently have 2 old Model 2 Charvels and a Firecrackle Predator.
I love the neck on the Predator, it seems slightly wider and slimmer than the Model 2, so i would prefer to get a guitar with that type of feel.

I'm toying with getting either a DK2 series or a Style 1, but as there are only about 3 places selling the Charvels in the UK and non of the stores are remotely near me it's a bit hard to try them out!
    Thanks for any advice.

If the most important aspect of the guitar for you is that it has to have a thin neck with a similar feel to your Predator, then the DK2 will be closer than the SD Style 1. I wouldn't say they have thick necks, but they're even a bit more full than Model Series necks, so that might not appeal to you. In just about every other respect, I'd personally recommend the Charvel over a DK2, though. If there's any way at all for you to get to a store to try one, I'd do it, because you might just find that you love the neck even though the specs are different from what you are used to.

Right, and if you want 24 frets then its the DK for you.

I love my model series guitars and my 2 guitars that have the dk2 neck profile but to me the new charvels necks have the most comfortable neck profile that I have ever played.

a lot of guys forget to mention the recessed floyd on the DK2 vs. non-recessed floyds on the SD. i have a mega hard time playing a guitar with a non-recessed floyd, which is why i have passed on ALL the new SD models. so, if that is an issue for you be sure to consider that as well.
          GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

          and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Maybe it is cuz I was raised on non-recessed Floyds/Floyd copies, but I am the polar opposite of you on this one .

I've tried, but I just cannot get used to the recessed trems at all. Just do not feel right to me. Palm muting, gallop picking, ...hell just about all picking just seems easier/more natural to me with a non-recessed trem.

So, any recessed trem guitars...keep em as far as I'm concerned, I don't want anything to so with them.
