  • my first Jackson

hello guys. been a jackson admirer here for a long time and, at last, i got my first one.
it's a Jackson DXMG. (no photos as of now, still need to schedule the photo shoot )
i did a research about the guitar that led me to some questions. i hope you guys here can enlighten me.

    here it goes:

1 - ive read that early production of DXMG's were made in India and eventually in Japan with the bridge type as one of the distinct difference. The ones made in india has the JT500 and JT580 for those made in japan.
My DXMG has the JT500 tremolo but at the same a "MADE IN JAPAN" sticker near the neck heel. Now my question: Is this possible? for a MIJ dxmg to have a jt500 bridge?

2 - i tried to check on the serial number hoping that i can determine when the guitar was made (ive read that the production of MIJ dxmg's started on or after august 2001, so dxmg's made before that were made in india) but another problem came up, i cant seem to decipher the serial. the serial number is 01061103.

3 - what are the other differences (eg neck thickness, body wood, etc) between an India and a Japan made dxmg?

4 - some dxmg users said that the neck is thin but, for me, it felt like a strat's neck or maybe im just used in holding wizard I necks

i hope i didnt cause enough trouble with my inquiries. i'll try to research more so i can learn and at the same time contribute in this forum.

    will post pics soon.

    TIA guys!

I can't answer all your questions as I've never played the Indian DXMG but here's some answers.

    1. You don't really make sense. You say that the JT580 bridge comes with DXMGs made in Japan but then you ask is it possible for a MIJ DXMG to have the JT580. I have a JT580LP sitting next to me. It was taken out of a MIJ DXMG.

    4. There is definitely a difference in the thickness of DXMG necks throughout the years. My friend has an incredible neck on his DXMG. Really thin. It came with a Takeuchi trem so it might've been made in the late 90s or 2001. I've played a 2008 DXMG and the neck is a lot thicker. No where near the thinness of my friend's DXMG.

Hope that answers some of your questions!

I got the DXMG as my first Jackson too. On my 2008 model, it had a sticker on the back of the lower neck that said "Made in Japan." The neck is actually pretty fast and I haven't played an earlier one so I'm not sure about how thin it is. As far as the licensed floyd, it SUCKS.

Doesn't it come with a JT580LP? If so, it's a decent trem if you know how to set it up.

Hmmm, that is strange. Your ser # should be be Made in India 2001, but if you are sure the trem is a JT580, it should be MIJ. Maybe somebody replaced the plate, but I can't figure out why somebody would do that. Post detailed pics when you get em.

              And congrats.

Maybe someone replaced the trem instead?

Is it really? My guitar guy in the local shop has to go through hell to put on strings for it, ( I'm a noob when it comes to stringing on floyds) and when I went to drop C, I don't even want to recount what happened. I guess I'll see what I can do with it.

Maybe you should try a different guitar tech. It's pretty easy and straightfoward. You should learn to string Floyded guitars. It's not hard to learn and it'll save you a lot of $$$ in the long run.

Yeah, there's a thread on here somewhere... probably in Tech Q & A.

                            By the serial #

So now you are saying your DXMG has a JT500 trem?

So with the fact of your 8 digit ser # it seems like your Made in India DXMG has the custom addition of a Made in Japan sticker!
