The easiest way to go would be to block the trem so it can't dive or pull up, or to buy & install a Tremol-no, which allows you to choose whether to have the trem locked or not.

Slightly off topic but I bought some Elixir strings last year - I've not had to change them yet despite playing many gigs. They still sound relatively fresh after 9 months use, so I say you get what you pay for definitely in this regard.

I buy Elixers and they cost me between £9 and £10 depending which store I go to

It does indeed have the slot in the trem access cover, as well as the six holes. The holes I noticed as being odd, but I'm so used to looking at Strats that the string slot in the trem cover didn't stand out.

So that makes it a 1C? Does this mean that either a vintage bridge or JT-6 can fit on this guitar? The odd looking route still scares me.

              Thanks so much!
Ok, cool. So, if it was once a model 1 and it now has a unrouted floyd then the neck was probably shimmed to get the correct angle due to the floyd being higher than the vtrem. This is not a problem but you want to make sure the guy didnt sand down the neck or neck pocket instead of adding a shim. I would probably grab it too. Maybe $100 out the door?

That's pricey. Try somewhere like strings direct <LINK>

On topic, it sounds like you've got the model sorted. It could be worth it to do the guitar up a bit, and treat it as a project, but i'm not really sure how good the Model 1's were.

Er, I don't know much about chavs, but "getting high on weed" does not a chav make.
