So if the DK2M started in 2006, and your serial starts with 97, and Martin's starts with 98, it might be safe to assume (based on Jackson's past serialization schemes) that the 2nd number now denotes the year, and the first number the country of manufacture. 9=Japan, 7=2007.
Good theory, but wrong. Those MIJ serials are strictly chronological starting with 9600001.
