May I ask why you need to know this so badly?

Mine starts with 98 in the serial number, I just assumed it meant 1998. Although it's in fantastic condition for a guitar apparently as old as that, and the previous owner paid £450 for it just 10 months ago.
So I'll be interested to know the answer to this!

It's very important to know the year of your import Jackson so you can inform Potential bidders that it's pre-Fender and therefore superior to the junk they make now.

DK2Ms weren't made back then. Maybe the 8 at the end signifies 2008? Actually... It's probably the first number of the serial that determines the year. Well, that's how I'd do it.

My DK2's serial is almost the same as yours and it's 2006. Yours was probably a different batch from the same time.

The 9 means made in Japan the rest of the numbers are not related to the year AFAIK.

So if the DK2M started in 2006, and your serial starts with 97, and Martin's starts with 98, it might be safe to assume (based on Jackson's past serialization schemes) that the 2nd number now denotes the year, and the first number the country of manufacture. 9=Japan, 7=2007.

Or you could simply remove the neck, since they stamp the date in the neck pocket.

Newc, do they do that on ALL Jacksons (bolt ons at least)? I took the neck off my KE3 the other day and there's nothing stamped on it.
