But is that really true Matt? Given the recent circumstances of Fender loosing their retrospective claim to Copyright / Trademark the strat and tele bodies? And the failure of the Gibson vs PRS lawsuit?

Maybe Gibson did copyright / TM the Firebird, Explorer and V design, in which case there'd be a legal problem. But if they didn't, then surely like the strat / tele sillouette, these shapes are now fair game?

WTF can people not understand that? Yes Jackson did it before. The owner of that design said "don't build my fucking design anymore", and it's over.

And Mark Morton didn't design the MM1. It was based on the Jackson OutCaster/Surfcaster designs from the mid-late 90s. He may have spec'd the knobs and woods, but the outline of the body came from existing Jackson models, not the Firebird.
Yes, but the difference is Chevy and Toyota never made one at all. And we're not "whining" about WISHING Jackson would make one, we are whining about how we wish them to make them AGAIN. I get everyones point with all the analogies, but this is truly a unique situation.

Also, thanks, I never knew the Culprit was called that, or was a DD signature, since i ONLY saw it with Gus G. I was talking about the epi demon, and I have heard of the one you are most likely describing, but I have never seen another kind, so who makes it? I might of heard Jackson, but I do not remember. Also i do really like the Mark Morton as it does remind me of a FB actually. But what I do not really like are the inlays, and I HATE the Headstock, but it's a Signature model, so it's not my decision.

for the record i just read this for like the fifth time and it seems kind of bitchy. sorry not my intent to be bitchy.. it reads (to me) like i'm yelling this.. the post is casual it just doesn't read that way and i'm too damn tired right now to try and fix it.

Actually this entire thread is whining. Wah, i'm tired of hearing people want Jackson to make something. Lets face the facts, if Jackson saw big enough $ signs they would be making round horns and birds, and it would be fuck all the gentleman agreements. It's business.

And so long as Kramer (A Gibson Company) makes Rhoads knock offs, and Strat knock offs, there is no reason Jackson can't respond in kind.

This talk of "Gentleman's agreement" is total bullshit, it just doesn't exist. And for the most part, all we (well I) am asking is that it were to be a custom shop option. Not production like the cheap ass Kramers are.

As for ESP, I have no problem with them doing the Rhoads, Les Pauls, whatever, if they can get more people to play them then Jackson can with their own flagship guitar then good for them, That shows they are doing something right that Jackson is not.

And Fender is hardly keeping up with any gentleman agreement either, they do own Hamer which makes a round horn and an explorer and a les paul knock off.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

This is what Jackson did at one time...

I think if FMIC banned graphics on all of its Jackson/Charvel guitars some of the Koolaid drinkers would justify the desicion...

Please try reading the court cases next time, Newc, because this is totally WRONG.

The body styles were never trademarked (or whatever the appropriate legal term is). And, hence, the courts have found that Gibson and Fender are NOT entitled to legal protections. So they are NOT Gibson nor Fender's legal "property". That was made VERY clear in the court's decision. Hence, they have been in the "public domain" for decades, and other companies have every legal right to make their own versions of these body styles.

Jackson is NOT legally prohibited from making these body styles. Rather, FMIC's lawyers have chosen to preculde J/C from making them, as a self-imposed corporate policy choice. Whether that is because of the rumored "gentleman's agreement" between Fender and Gibson is open for debate, and will probably never be confirmed. But FMIC's legal staff has chosen to restrict which body styles can be made. Nothing in law prevents J/C (or any other company for that matter) from doing so. They have every legal right to make their own versions of the Explorer, Flying V, Firebird body styles. They could even make a Les Paul copy, if they wanted to do so.

I don't really want one, but I know about Chris' guitar, as well as Oz Fox's pointy Charvel Explorer years before that. ESP ripped that shape off, too!

Meh, I think it's almost as ugly as those gay Carvin "pointies". Who would rather have that than a real Gibson double neck?

                        Depends.

For investment purposes, I would rather have a real Gibson doubleneck.

If it was something I was going to actually play, I would rather have the Jackson.

Yes. Also, I would ALWAYS choose the one that says Jackson. Even Jack son.

If you read the comic thing he said he wanted a double neck SG with a neck like his Jacksons. You cant get that from Gibson now can you?

This is what the Jackson CS was at one time. You can call them and they would build you anything you could dream up.

Its sad to see so many people here have forgotten what Jackson was all about as a company. Instead you guys are siding with big corporate Jackass lawyers that dont know a headstock from their ass.

Like I said if FMIC say no more graphics period, some of you guys would be like "Who needs graphics anyways." or "Why not just buy a GMW with graphics."and finally "It was good FMIC banned graphics as someone could get offended by hot rod flames plus they used those on hot rods and someone could sue."

or "What if someone walked into a crowed theater with a hotrod flame graohic on their Jackson and people paniced and someone got hurt. Oh the Huge Manatee! I am so glad FMIC banned graphics on Jacksons."
