    my first attraction to Jackson/Charvel?

    Kramer guitars!

I remember seeing a cd cover that had a Kramer Focus 6000 on the cover and said "I want a guitar like that" and the closest thing I could find was a DK2, so I happily settled.

What happened when I finally got a Kramer?

The Jackson felt better to me

My Dad (35) has a Kramer Focus 6000 and its a great player, he never plays it though because its not his thing more of an ESP dude. I like it but the color is a mega draw back teal green. But it was like 89' so you know.

no player influenced me to play jackson. i always hated them and their goofy pointed headstock. i was raised on ibanez then switched to ESP in the early 90's.

eventually it was price that moved me toward jackson. when i could buy kick ass graphic painted, neck-through jacksons, that came stock with all my favorite bits of hardware, for 1399 out the door, i was converted. i was paying 1299 - 1499 for bolt-on ESP's that were solid colors!!!!

shit, i only paid 1499 for my first PC-1 brand new with a case!!! that was enough there.....
          GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

          and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

That's funny, considering those Kramers were actually made by ESP in Japan.

I always thought they looked fucking great with their awesome pointed headstocks and sharkfin inlays.

I was attracted to the looks more than anything else(when I first started playing).

Of course many of my favorite bands/musicians also played them.

I know right. He plays a Mirage Deluxe, because it is very crunchy sounds great for his band which is a mix between grunge and some progressive stuff. Its made of Alder opposed to maple and he is burnt out on the Kramer it was his only guitar he played for like 12 years i think. As well as the teal paint job doesn't go well with grungey stuff.

My first guitar hero was Stevie Ray Vaughan. Cool story actually It was the very first concert I ever went to back in the 80s. My dad was a drummer, and he decided he was going to take me to see SRV, I guess to broaden my horizons LOL. At the time I was into Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and even Twisted Sister, Quiet Riot, and the likes. I'd never heard of SRV and was NOT interested at all. My dad said "trust me, you will thank me for this later".

                  He was right.

The concert was at the NY State Fairgrounds, an outdoor (horse track) gig. The weather was total shit. It was raining off and on all day, and by the time the show started that night, it had stopped raining but was threatening to pour again at a moments notice. SRV and Double Trouble hit the stage and I was completely BLOWN AWAY. I was sitting there with my jaw on the floor the entire time. I couldn't take my eyes off that guy. Then all of the sudden, during (I kid you not) "Couldn't Stand The Weather", it started POURING. It was raining at like a 45 degreee angle from the wind blowing so bad, and it was pounding the stage. The musicians stopped playing... all except Stevie, who was mid-solo. He was wearing his trademark wide-brimmed hat and just put his head down to use the hat as a shield from the rain for his face, and just proceeded to SHRED He finished his solo, unplugged the guitar, and quietly said into the mic "guess we better get inside before someone gets killed" and he exited the stage.

I was speechless. I was 12/13yrs old or so at the time and completely dumb struck LOL. I'd never picked up a guitar before, but after that night I immediately started saving money to buy my first guitar... and have been playing ever since.

He was the reason I started playing, BUT my tastes have changed in terms of my playing style I guess you could say. These days, I'm probably more influenced by Dave Mustaine and Marty Friedman for the most part. And they are THE reason I picked up my first Jackson. That was one helluva shredding duo if you ask me. I have other influences as well, but those would be my big ones

As far as I can remember, my liking Charvel/Jackson guitars doesn't really have anything to do with who plays or played them, I just always liked "hot rod" Strats. THAT I credit Eddie Van Halen for.

I played Kramers for a while but spotted the Charvels/Jacksons in a Musician's Friend catalog and not long after I bought my first Charvel, been playing them ever since.

Having had a few Kramers over the years - mostly those Focus imports - but having played others - I never understood whey they went with those tiny little frets. That's the main reason I can't justify buying an old Kramer now - they all had those little frets.

My Dad subscribed to Guitar World magazine when I was a kid. I was 13 years old when the December 1991 issue showed up with Mustaine/Friedman on the cover and that was it, I had to have a Jackson King V. That is also how I discovered Megadeth.

That guitar is for sale on Craigslist in CA by the way.

For me it was VV...but I had to get through my BC Rich phase first.

I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.

I had that magazine back then. The Firebird is actually a Japanese market guitar... it says Grover Jackson after the logo. Dave also had at least one V with the Grover Jackson on the headstock. The Grover Jackson line turned into the Jackson Stars line.

Speaking of magazines, anyone gotten the new MF catalog? That new reissue of the second rhoads (normal size sharks though) only 10 made and numbered ans signed by mike shannon. Not sure how many non signed ones there are though. I'm almost positive thats probably been around here a few times, but Im saying theres a WHOLE page devoted to just it! And the preceding page is all of the signature lines, with an RR1 also. Plus the normal jackon section later on. The mag has those fag A7X guys on it though...
