I have never had that kinda luck recieving ,I'd sell something for stupid cheap,/or trade/bought something(i.e. The old Charvel I spent stupid money on) and get ripped off . I have given in the word of need . I USED to give old tapes/Concert shirts, etc to a friend who's parents really didnt give a hoot about him,(Seriously a Red-headed stepchild ordeal) it was sad.His Dad would beat him, etc, never buy him clothes, etc, and I was grateful I had caring parents that understood why I did what I did.

Never have given away a Jackson but I have given away an Onyx guitar to a mate of mine bout 20 years ago who wanted to learn guitar , he is now a drummer so says alot about the guitar.
The Onyx was a cheap imititation of a Jackson it even had sharkie inlay stickers on the fretboard.I dont get scared but i do get shocked!!

I've given guitars and alot of other things away. If I'm not using it or someone needs it alot more than me (lots of motorcycle parts), always comes back in the end I think. I do hate when I realize what I gave away after the fact and regret it cause it was something that I wanted but didn't know what I had. Like the tube head (Stramp) that I found out later was a marshall clone and sounded perfect with new tubes and was sold for $1000. Those deals make me feel taken for a ride by an asshole..Every man dies... Not every man really lives!!

Yup, I have given guitars and many other things away.
Like a couple others in this thread... if it's not something I need / want, but some other people can put it to good use, why not?
If I happen to need the cash, then I'll charge reasonable market value or slightly less. If I don't need the casn, and I like the person (or they have special circumstances), I don't mind giving away stuff.

Sure.
Gave a Peavey Tracer to a nephew.
Never got an official "Thanks", but I chalk that up to "kids nowadays".
That was what...15 years ago?
Given away plenty of other stuff, inspired by the folks here that have given me stuff, pay it forward!Last edited by Cygnus X1; 08-02-2009, 06:57 AM.

My 15 year old neice spent a week with me last year and she is very into music. Well almost music she's into EMO and new punk.
I gave her a good dose of metal while she was here so I did my job.
She was wanting a retro guitar and asked me which would be a good one to learn on.
I told her if you promise to practice everyday I'll give you a guitar.
I showed her 6 that would fit the bill and she picked out a 69 Tiesco 110.
Absolutly a great playing guitar I even recut the nut for her because she's a lefty and restung it gave it a set up.Gave her my POD 2.0 as well.
She said you have to be the coolest Uncle ever, you are way cooler than my Dad.
Of course I had to agree with her.
I really miss that guitar it had the best clean tone ever.
I believe if you give out of the goodness of you heart you will get something good back in return.Last edited by straycat; 08-02-2009, 05:03 AM.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

The only guitar I ever gave away was actually for payment for a friend helping me get my old house ready to sell. He refused to take cash so I found a Jackson on ebay that I knew he would like and had it set up. It's now his only electric guitar.

Donnie (RIP bro) and I used to have our annual Rams vs Seahawks bet for a guitar, $700 or so. The 1st year I won, not sure what he gave me, but the 2nd, he won and I think I bought him a Wolfie he wanted and the 3rd year, I lost AGAIN! But I didn't get him one in time ( ) so I donated a Fusion I had to a charity auction in his name a year or so ago.
I've given a ton of shit away over the years, I've been very fortunate and I've always been pretty generous in general. I believe you get out what you put in and karma has a way of finding the door, it's up to you what door it uses.
Almost forgot, that's a great gesture you did! It WILL come back around, trust me!Don't blame Congress or the President - blame yourselves. ~Newc

Hmm, like Rich above, I have given guitars to people would wouldn't accept payment. I gave a really cool BC Rich Warlock to my nephew when his dad (my brother) painted my car. That guitar was pretty unique - lime green, 1H (slanted), Floyd, and a maple fretboard. Unfortunately, the next time I saw it, it was in his bedroom, all banged up. Ouch. He did get into a band, though, so that was cool. I also gave him a Line 6 UX1. I gave a MIK Hamer Californian to a different nephew. That was a really great playing guitar. I left a classical acoustic at my parents' for my nephews to play, and eventually it was gone. I don't know where it went.

gave away a warlock to a friend when i moved down to texas; the car was already full of guitars, and i had no room for it. gave a guitar to my son (not sure that i'd really count it, tho), and i'm planning on giving a set neck lp junior styled guitar for a very special kid who turns 13 in december. that reminds me, i gotta buy the truss rod and get that neck glued in! LOL

I gave away a peavey VTX classic, I was going to lug it to the store to sell, it was a hot day, the amp wieghed approxamtly 250 pounds, so this dude walked by with a RUSH shirt (I live near Berklee in Boston) so I said "do you want this? - it has heinous distortion"
